Saw these tables which are put together by Rivals ratings:

4 and 5 star commits from each school over the years:

*2014 recruiting has not ended yet and is only taking account of current commitments.

    Thought this was pretty crazy.

No real surprises i don't think.

I'm hoping Kingsbury's recruiting starts to pick up a bit more. There are more two star recruits coming in now than I've ever seen at tech.

Texas and USC have had an ungodly amount of 4 and 5 star players and look where each school is right now.

Give me a great coach and he will produce a winner with any level of recruit.

My favorite example is BYU who never gets many great recruits but is always a solid program, especially back in the day when Lavelle Edwards was their coach.

Definitely. Player development is just as important as recruiting. Half the time these high school players get high ratings solely on their physical build. It's up to the college program to continue to develop that player's body. Strength and conditioning is a HUGE part of it.

yup, it's about what you with with the players. you gotta figure that a guy who gets ANY offers from D1 schools at least has potential to be a great player, it just depends on how they're used, how motivated they are, all that stuff. I bet Texas fans are pretty disappointed that all those seniors they have this year that were such great recruits just kinda never panned out or got better.

or a combination of both. 4 and 5 star prospects are spoiled by hype and supporting casts. imo, i find the 3 stars the hardest working because they have something to prove.

    Why aren't Saban's recruits spoiled?

Tommy Tuberville was (is?) the most effective coach I've ever seen in terms of developing lower rated (out of HS) kids into pro prospects. The NFL is littered with guys he coached up while he was at Auburn... I think he also had a bunch come out of Miami as well (86-93)

Tubs was 7-3 against Bama and 5-5 against both LSU and Georgia. All three of those teams regularly out-recruited him, at least in regards to recruiting rankings.

Pretty sure he had a winning record against Florida, too

It's not like Auburn had ty players, but relative to the power schools, (UA,UGA,LSU,UF) he took the leftovers and made them much, much better

we talk a little trash about Tubs in raiderland because our teams overall sucked while he was here, but damn if he didn't recruit some really good guys for us on the defensive side of the ball. will Smith, tre porter, terrance bullitt, and Bruce jones are all solid players who have helped make our defense pretty good this year. helps to have a solid coordinator too.

Tubs pulled Amaro to Tech if nothing else.

Aside from maybe WRs, Leach didn't really turn guys into great pros. But he still squeezed an extra star out of a lot of guys running his system.

Texas has between 40 and 50 guys in the NFL right now, most of those guys came from the Vince and Colt Era. Mack at one time was a pretty good coach at developing talent, or should I say his staff was, but after 2k9 all he as done is collect a pay check. He began recruiting off of Rivals lists (or the like), and he stopped doing due diligence in actually looking for talent.

The fact is, he retired after the Rose Bowl and forgot to tell everyone.

If Bill Snyder was 20 years younger he would be my runaway favorite to take over the Texas program.

No matter, the Mack Brown era is about to come to a close. Looking forward to a new Era in Texas football.
