Let the rumors begin…
The Los Angeles Lakers are currently in China – as is Mitch Kupchak – and opening night is still over two weeks away, yet the first trade rumor of the season is already upon us.
According to Sam Amico of Fox Sports, the Lakers have reached out to at least one NBA executive recently, and the word around the league is that the purple and gold may attempt to pull off a “substantial” trade before October 29.
Oh, and once again, Pau Gasol’s name is mentioned:One Eastern Conference executive told FOX Sports Ohio he’s heard from the Lakers recently, and word around the league is they may try to make a “substantial” trade before the regular season. Apparently, forward Pau Gasol remains far from untouchable. Many NBA talent-evaluators feel as if Steve Nash is no longer capable of playing at a high level for more than 15-20 minutes game. The Lakers, it is believed, are on the lookout for a younger point guard who’s a more potent scorer. But as everyone who deals in the trade market will tell you, that won’t be so easy to obtain.Trades before the start of the season aren’t impossible (last year, James Harden was dealt to the Houston Rockets before opening night, however, that was due to contract extension problems) but it seems unlikely that the Lakers would make a move this early in the year, especially if it involved trading Gasol.
Pau is finally healthy and has looked great so far this pre-season; unless the team could upgrade at the power forward or center position, it seems unlikely that they’d move Gasol, especially as he’s on an expiring contract.
The report also says that the Lake Show are looking for a younger point guard who can score: didn’t they sign Jordan Farmar during the off-season? Farmar is no Chris Paul, but he certainly is capable of playing major minutes and running the point effectively.
In conclusion, the Lakers really don’t know who they are yet, and neither do a lot of the other team’s around the league, which is why this time of the year is usually not a popular time to make a trade.
Of course, Gasol or any of the Lakers (aside from Kobe Bryant) could be dealt to another team nearer the trading deadline – as always, if the right deal comes along the trigger will be pulled – but it seems that this report should just be taken with a pinch of salt at this time.

Personally I can't wait. How many picks did they give up for Nash again?![]()
Begging for a point guard and begging people to buy tickets
Laker fans need to pump brakes. I like what i see out of Pau and him plying well only drives his value up., if they plan to trade him. If they do would rather young talent, not a star.
I'll be honest no player Love, Kyrie (both injury prone so far) Rose (knee) Rondo (ditto) to me is worth Pau AND paying a max contract. Outside of lebron only player worth that kind of scratch is Durant. Not post achilles Kobe, Dirk or Timmy. I would take any of those guys for Pau bit not at a max deal. Neither Melo who i still like ...
I wonder who they're targeting, although no player they will be able to get is going to make them relevant, their roster is complete trash defensively and full of mediocre offensive players. I'm assuming Gasol would have to be involved because he would be the only piece with a high enough salary to net a decent player. Watch them trade Pau, Meeks, and Blake for Stoudemire and Smith or something![]()
I have a feeling it might be Aldridge though considering he wanted out of Portland. Is he really a significant upgrade over Pau though?
Doesn't matter who they trade for. At the end of the day, Kobe is still the ballhog we all know and hate.
if we could get LaMarcus Aldridge and Rondo and get rid of Pau and Nash I would feel real good![]()
Nash is real liability at this point..He just doesn't have it...
They'll send Pau Gasol to Houston in a 3-way trade for CP3.
Unless the trade is for more picks in the upcoming draft the Lakers will only regress further with trades. Nothing short of Lebron James can salvage the damage already done.
I suspect Kevin Love to be a likely target as he is obtainable with the Wolves having no direction in the development of their roster. There could be talks with OKC if they have come to the realization that Durant is unlikely to stay, but that is extremely unlikely.
^ that negro ..I don't want him on my Squad....
this news has me excited..I hope their being smart about this....
Kevin, judging by your past behaviour, you would worship his widow's peak if he joined.
Like the old, decrepit, attention-whoring fogey he is.![]()
game 6 might be my last time posting here![]()
