first off Magua, your troll thread was cute. however absolutely nothing you say will ever be taken seriously considering your history of bandwagon jumping. that's not to say that LSU didn't deserve to be laughed at last night because they certainly did, but you're a front running troll. Overnight NY Giants fan, overnight Bama fan, overnight Denver Broncos fan, etc., etc... Now for the real discussion ...

I want you all to think about to two important dates in LSU football history -

    November 5, 2011
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_LS..._football_game
    &
    January 9, 2012
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_BC...mpionship_Game

November 5, 2011 was a preview for the beginning of the end and January 9, 2012 was officially the end of LSU football truly being an elite and consistent National Championship contender each and every year. During that season LSU had the most physically talented team in their history and easily a top-3 of all time in college football history. We all know the story of Les Miles bending over backwards and doing everything in his power to protect Jordan Jefferson from university and NCAA punishment with his constant off the field problems. Jefferson was only suspended a handful of games whenever he should have been kicked off the team for good. In the meantime Jarrett Lee led the team to a 8-0 start along with leading the SEC in passing yards and throwing only one interception during that time. Miles however had other plans in mind and it is well do ented within LSU and those with close ties to the team that he wanted Jefferson as the QB despite the majority of the team, all of the fan base, experts, and common sense in general telling otherwise.

Jarrett Lee struggled during the first half of the November 5th Alabama game and that was it. He was immediately pulled from the game and sat the bench the rest of the entire season only seeing the field twice again to kneel the football. Jordan Jefferson comes in and does absolutely nothing that game as well, but was able to get LSU close enough in OVERTIME to kick a field goal for the win. This was exactly what Miles wanted. His boy was back and he was going to show everyone - the fan base, his coaches, his players, etc. - that HE was in charge and what HE says goes. LSU then goes on to win against a couple of cakewalk teams with Jefferson and wins the SEC championship game THANKS TO THE DEFENSE (Jordan Jefferson couldn't even get an LSU first down in the entire first half). The preview of what to come was there. Well then fast forward to January 9, 2012 in the BCS National Championship game rematch against Alabama and when LSU needed points, guess who couldn't get them? Jordan Jefferson. - Not only did Miles stick with his same game plan of running the same three plays over and over while Nick Saban tore him apart with adjustments, he didn't even attempt to change anything while having significantly better passing quarterbacks on the bench in Jarrett Lee and freshman Zach Mettenberger. The game was still winnable midway through the 4th quarter, but Miles stuck with his disaster of a plan and went down with his ego rather than doing what was best for the team. There was even a pre-game and halftime fight in the locker room between coaches and players pleading with Miles to do something else.

The bottom line is that Les Miles is a very average head coach at best. He inherited arguably the most popular for recruits and one of the top-3 best programs in the country when taking over from Nick Saban in 2005. Saban built this program from being a below average, 7 win team at best, to a 13 win national championship team in 4 years and Les Miles has reaped the benefits ever since. Any knowledgeable football fan on this message board could have been the head coach of LSU over the last 8 years and would win at least 8-10 games every year. The ridiculous amount of talent that LSU receives is extremely impressive and they are consistently a top 2-4 recruiting class each and every year and the reality is - that is thanks to what Nick Saban built and left for Miles. Even the 2007 National Championship that Miles won is mainly thanks to Saban's players. Now that's not to say that Miles doesn't deserve any credit because he certainly does, but not much. Take away the talent that Saban left him and take away the talent that we still get long after Saban has left, and Miles would do exactly what he did at Oklahoma State ... next to nothing. (28-21 combined record in 4 years).

Since January 9, 2012 the decline of LSU football has not been drastic, but has been steady. They lost 3 games last season including an embarrassing bowl game loss to Clemson, and have already lost 2 games this season to garbage Georgia and Ole Miss teams. LSU will continue to be a legit top-25 team from here on out (thanks to the talent in Louisiana that LSU gets), but they are no longer a guaranteed le threat every year like they have been for nearly the last decade. The decline is coming and Les Miles's luck (and Saban's players) ran out a long time ago. Below is the hard reality that most diehard LSU fans do not like to talk about or accept, but it is the truth -

    Les Miles Bowl Game Record

    at Oklahoma State: 1-2

at LSU WITH Nick Saban's players during first four years: 4-0

at LSU on his own over last four years: 1-3

LSU will continue to win 8-10 games every year (8 wins just enough for Miles to keep his job), but they will never see another National le under him.

son I wouldn't laugh too loud. If Saban turns down Texas, Miles could very well be next (and I pray that to be true).

Last night a Texas fan told me - "we will send Saban a private jet" ... I responded... "save the money and send Miles a Greyhound Bus".

The offer is already out there for Saban. 8 million a year and a blank check to get the best assistants out there.

After that there are about 4 other candidates with a tentative offer of what Mack is currently making and that same blank check for his assistants.

The name mentioned are Charlie Strong, David Shaw, Art Briles, and James Franklin. Heard a few other names but those are the ones most talked about.

Fans of big programs are re ed tbh. Nobody contends for a NT year in and year out. UT, USC, FSU, Penn State, Miami, etc etc...all have gone through cycles. LSU will be back. Plus 95% of schools would love to have the off years the hoodrats at LSU have so stop ing, son.

it's not about winning the le every year.

you obviously don't follow LSU games closely. there is a reason why Miles gets the criticism he does.

For HC? Not sure how that would have worked there.

In Lubbock it works because he's an alumnus bringing an offense back that everyone is familiar with. The players that are there are all familiar with spreads.

He also brought in a bunch of assistants that were former players that are excited to be there, to be back.

I recall him mentioning it last year, but thought it was just for OC.

Excited to help push your school to another level..... but yeah Lubbock......although not the worst place in Texas...probably not so excited over having to drive 5 hours to get anywhere.

College Station and Waco are bigger arm pits, imo fwiw

    BR,
Was it true the night before the 2012 Championship that Jefferson and some other players partied HARD late into the night on Bourbon St and were still feeling the effects of the hangover at kickoff? Jefferson looked like he was playing in slow motion in that game. Also, did one of the players, a captain, go to Miles to report that Jefferson had been out all night, was in no condition to play and that the team wanted Jack to start, only to have Miles retaliate against the captain ? I thik the players dad was a radio guy there in Louisana and reported this?

Son I'm not trying to sound like a know it all, but I do know several people within the program (past and present) and it is indeed true that there was a load of tension between players and coaches in the locker room before the game and during half time. The drinking on the night before? I don't know. However it is a fact that got borderline physical between certain players and coaches fighting in the locker room over the QB situation.
