This was a good episode tbh. It leads up to the bloodshed of the next couple of episodes (according to spoilers, people die). I don't get what people expect from the show at this point. We got a little bit of zombie killing action, a little bit of character intro/development (the new characters), and an ending that sucks you into the next episode.
I am already liking this season more than the 2nd and 3rd. It feels like big things will happen and the group will constantly be in action and perhaps even on the move with the prison being exposed.
Agreed, the show has completely become emo gay . It doesnt have to be zombie killings, just more on the survival part. The shows underlying theme used to be surviving, finding new 'maps and locations' so to speak. Now its just about Rick walking around like a got and sulking over his wife that was getting plowed by his best friend
The series needs to turn Rick around and make him cool again. The first two seasons I liked him better because he seemed to be sane. I am okay with character develoment as long as its good and moves the show along. Last season and episode one of this season sucked as far as Rick is concerned. I still like the show though.

So because there is no more military that means all the military equipment disappeared along with anyone who has ever flown a helicopter?
Kinda sucked for a season premiere imo. But all the people talking about the show already are gots tbh.
I've said this before, if the zombies aren't a threat, which they weren't last season, then this show isn't good. The ease at which characters can get away from and kill the zombies makes for way to little drama and suspense. Even in this premiere, emo Glen has been tackled by two zombies, but no big deal, for some reason these zombies "zombie yell" at him before trying to bite him so he has plenty of time to reach over, grab his gun, make one clean head shot, and then pistol whip the other.
Having said that, it looks like we're in for some actual zombie carnage over the next couple episodes, which is good, because last season, they'd have 5 episodes worth of build up and then the payoff wasn't ever enough. So there is still a chance for this show to get fun again.
Also, I'm pretty certain the scene with the crazy lady in the woods was just to reaffirm to Rick that while everything seems fine right now and he's in a good place, ultimately, the world is coming to an end and you're ed.
Maybe hindsight is 20/20, but why didn't they sleep with their cells closed in the first place? I mean there's airflow and you'd think for a bunch of security reasons (zombies, rape) they'd do so.
Decent episode with a lot of zombie action, imo. People died and I expect more to die in the next with the breaching of the prison gates. Rick is also turning soft crying over some pigs. He needs to be a badass again. Me thinks the return of the governor will prompt this re-transformation.
He's not crying over the loss of pigs. He's crying over the dissolution of what was looking like a long term home.
True... but in a post-apocalyptic world involving zombies there is no long term home imo.

Well, of course. But that doesn't mean that realization isn't going to suck. Especially when things have been relatively quiet and comfy and agricultural for months.
I liked it, overall. I thought there was some good tension at times, and there were a few interesting character moments (despite their all caps SYMBOLISM and FORESHADOWING), but we're still too early in the setup phase for me to be terribly invested yet, one way or the other. It's a strong start to the season so far, I think, but not a terribly exciting one.
Incidentally, the preview for next week's episode showed a flash of Darryl trying to restrain Rick and Rick yelling at him to get off, which makes me wonder if a certain bout of fisticuffs that happens in the comics is going to happen next week. I hope not. While I want the story to get there, the friendship that makes that fight such a big deal hasn't been established yet, which would make this just another example of the show taking all of the steam and all of the emotional stakes out of the comics' biggest moments. Which would suck.
Talking Dead revealed last week that Abraham would be introduced this season, as well as a few others that would be familiar from the comic.
Kirkman has also said that there may be some things in the show that you'll see in yet to be released comics. I like the idea of it going in this direction sometimes instead of the more familiar comic ----> show

Good start to the seasonI've learned not to get too critical and appreciate the show for what it is... Escapist fare with enough interesting characters for me to give a about over the long haul. Oh, and zombies.
The only thing I really want to see this season is a getaway from the prison and a return to the road. Abraham being introduced means they'll probably be inching toward the D.C. story arc from the comic at some point. My guess is that once they're on the road is when The Governor will make his return, hopefully with new followers and more sick and twisted than ever before. (Cannibals?)
Oh yeah, hope Carl goes in the direction the comic takes him, too
I hope that direction is death because he is the absolute worst character. Nothing he can do can redeem himself for all the stupid he did in the past.
sooooo is there any reason why they don't just hook up a radio, speakers, and a car battery somewhere and let it shoot out static noise? or a bunch of wind chimes? or anything that makes noise? anything's better than spending 5 minutes a day killing a couple zombies and letting the rest keep pushing on the fence.
logic holds no bounds in a tv series...take for example the old horror or scary movies where everyone splits up instead of staying together as a group...

I'm not trying to be the asshole that refuses to suspend disbelief, but didn't they establish in season 2 that everyone turns after they die? Wouldn't the risk that played out in this episode been inevitable if someone died in their sleep in the prison, for any reason?
Dunno. I'd definitely be like asian guy and sleep in an isolated spot. then again, like hehateme said, logic has no place in this show. there's always a hundred zombies around the fences but if/when they go out for a lil drive or walk in the woods, there's none.Any thoughts?

Yeah, I can let things slide usually but some plot points are too contrived. It bothered me when I saw each cell has a gypsy curtain hanging from the doorway, but they thought everyone should sleep with the cell open and unlocked. , Herschel could probably died of a heart attack tomorrow, then turn.
Oh I'm sure he will. And I don't get why they had to kill the lil piggies either. Sure, Rick was probably right by saying they were getting the people sick or vice versa, but to get the zombies away from the fence, all you had to do was take a car, drive out a bit, honk the horn, then have them chase you for a while. Turn around, circle the hoard for a mile so they don't see/hear you, then drive back to the prison. But no....Yeah, I can let things slide usually but some plot points are too contrived. seems a little dumb to me to make Carl a hardcore soldier than neuter him. I want season 3 carl back. He was tolerable.
