watching bill simmons and he's implying the lakers will tank this season. assuming kobe returns around december and the lakers are playing 500 ball or struggling to reach that mark, the lakers will probably put a stop on this mini run, trade gasol while he has value and allow kobe to just score at will and entertain the fans. also a good chance d'antoni is fired before as break.

true or false, lakers will purposely tank for wiggins?

well, what's the alternative to tanking? playing as hard as they can and end up, at best, 10th in the west?

They will appear compe ive, barely miss playoffs and get the #2 or 3 pick. Silver cannot gift the Lakers the first pick and not expect repercussions.

They really have no shot at making the playoffs barring widespread injuries to the other bottom feeders in the West, so they might as well try to land Wiggins. They have a 0% chance of winning the NBA le and have ~30% chance of making the playoffs. Makes more sense to try to land the next big star.

Or we can just get KD in 2015, and build a young core in the meantime

False.... take a look at the Sixers if you want to see a team who's really committing to the tank, tbh....

Does it really matter? Lakers are irrelevant, like the Celtics.

I'd be more concerned with the Spurs. Spurs r done once Timmy and Parker are gone. Manu is already washed up, I respect the organization and love the way they find guys like Danny Green, Neal, Manu, Parker, etc. But once that core is gone and Popo retires, I see that organization fading into oblivion.

Spurs will tank and luck into another #1 pick and continue their success so the NBA has a small market team they can always point to as an example

Not gonna worry about the future, when the present is enjoyable. But you do have a point though. It's not much different to what the Lakers are going through right now, after Fisher/Phil Jackson aged and walked away.

It's VERY different, Lakers have epically collapsed I give you that. But it was obvious to anyone after 2011 that this team was going to be DONE for a while. Only your average run of the mill Mexican taco bender was gonna think Kobe was going to win another chip. You gotta remember, they went 10 years without a finals appearance until they got Phil Jackson+Shaq+Kobe. When Shaq left, many including myself questioned if Dr. Buss still had 'it', Lakers looked horrible from 2005-2007, the FO especially by missing pieces like Boozer, Garnett, Yao, etc.

It wasnt until 2008 things looked better and ultimately everyone cemented Dr. Buss as the GOAT owner. Jim on the other hand is the worst thing to happen to LA since that earthquake in 94.

They will tank but they ain't gonna get it done in an obvious manner imho. They'll pretend to be still competing to keep the fans on board, and probably they'll sign another washed-up big name player in the mid-season (Steve Nash caliber) but there'll be no feasible way for them to advance anywhere further than the 1st round imho.

Agree with all that, but before Dr Buss passed, it seemed the storm was only going to be around until Kirby decided to call it quits, because his salary, while it made the team money, was simply a choke-hold against acquiring solid talent.

But now the ascension of Jim puts the expiration date on mediocrity on stand by. You have to add that while going deep in the luxury tax was no problem when Dr Buss was around, now it's extremely prohibitive.

Obviously, there will be more CBA negotiations in the future, but these times are not like Dr Buss times.

We'll have time to cross that bridge when we get there. Right now, it's the Lakers being a team of the past. Let's not stray.

Tim doesn't give a about Kobe's 5 rings. You think he loses sleep thinking about Fisher's rings, or Horry's rings, or Jordan's rings?

You so want Kobe to be the benchmark, but he's not. He's not even close. The only people comparing his rings to Duncan's are Lakers fans.

So when someone thinks of Tim, they will think "one of the best to ever play the game, greatest PF ever" while with Kobe it's "tried to be Mike, got lucky by getting Shaq for a few years and then the franchise center from another playoff caliber team" They'll think Kobe was unrealized potential, held back by what Michael was able to defeat: the quest for personal glory over team glory.

No one has done for a franchise what Tim did for the Spurs, since what MJ did for the Bulls. That's a fact.
