that would be nice tbh...
LINKThe Lakers will have to manage without Steve Nash for at least two weeks as he tries to recover from a back injury.
Suffering from nerve root irritation, a problem that began when he broke his leg a year ago in the second game of the season, Nash's efforts will now be focused on getting healthy enough to fulfill his contract with the Lakers.
If he can't make it back, he may have already played in the final NBA game of his illustrious career, just weeks into his 18th season.
Retirement isn't presently on the table but what if Nash's two weeks extends to two, three and four months?
Should the Lakers' back specialist, Dr. Robert Watkins, determine that any additional effort by Nash to play would cons ute a medically unacceptable risk, the veteran point guard may end his career via forced medical retirement.
Nash is owed $9.3 million for the current year and $9.7 million for next season. If he's found to be physically unable to play, he would still receive full compensation.
The NBA would then do its due diligence, sending a league-appointed physician to verify Watkins' findings.
If the league would sign off, the final year of Nash's contract would be completely removed from the Lakers' salary cap -- as long as he plays in fewer than 10 games this season.
So far, Nash has made six appearances. Has he made his last?
The Lakers have nearly cleared their books for the summer of 2014 with only Robert Sacre ($915,243) and Nash with guaranteed salary. Nick Young has a player option for $1.2 million, and rookie Elias Harris is under contract for a non-guaranteed $816,482.
With Nash's salary coming off via theoretical retirement, the Lakers could have in the neighborhood of $54 million in spending power to chase free agents and/or re-sign their own players, such as Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol.
Big-name players such as LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Zach Randolph, Rudy Gay, Luol Deng and Greg Monroe (a restricted free agent) could all be free agents next summer.
Even if the league doesn't approve a potential Nash retirement, the Lakers may use their "stretch provision" to spread out the final year of his salary over three seasons, which would give the team about $50.9 million in spending power.
Medical retirements are rare in the NBA.
Portland Trail Blazers' forward Darius Miles retired in 2008 via medical retirement, although a technicality prevented the team from receiving cap relief when Miles attempted to rejoin the league the following season.
The Trail Blazers weren't willing to take a chance when guard Brandon Roy retired with knee problems and $63 million left on his contract.
Instead of medical retirement, the Blazers waived him via their one-time amnesty clause, which completely removed his salary from the team's books.
Roy eventually returned to the league last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but his knees couldn't hold up and he retired a second time in May.
The New York Knicks received financial relief when Cuttino Mobley "retired" in 2010 with a heart issue, although Mobley in turn sued the team, disagreeing with the medical retirement.
Nash, at age 39, would probably be an easier case to make to the league than players retiring before their time, such as Roy, Miles and Mobley.
However, for now Nash will be working to return to the court, with medical retirement only becoming an option if he is truly unable to make it back.

This quote is huge. Especially if the Mark Cubans of the NBA try to us over again. That would mean about only about $7M on the books next year.Even if the league doesn't approve a potential Nash retirement, the Lakers may use their "stretch provision" to spread out the final year of his salary over three seasons, which would give the team about $50.9 million in spending power.
LkrFan Pipe dream:
- Lakers miss this year's playoffs
- Get a lotto pick. Since it's good business for the league for LA to be good, we get to draft Jabari out of Duke - ala Ewing to the Knicks in a fixed lottery (or Bron to Cavs)
- Sign two max free agents. Quick history lesson: there was a 7'1" 325lb 24-year old monster who left a stacked Magic team - who went to the Finals - because he wanted to be a Laker and they cleared a ton of cap space to make it a possibility. Déjà Vu in 2014? Who knows?
- Kobe's $30 is off the books next year. But this year, he comes back for about 35 games. Pass MJ on the all-time scoring list. Waits to see which max free agent the Lakers will sign, then signs for about $10M
Players love LA. Especially free agents that know we could possibly have only $7M on the books after this year. Location location location sons. Plus we have a track record of saying a luxury tax IF the players we're trying to get are deemed worthy. Interesting times coming for my boys.![]()
If Nash doesn't play 10 games this year, NBA = Fcked next year.
Chess - not checkers beotches.![]()
Come to think about, Nash wins too if they use the stretch provision on his contract. If they only pay him $3.2M for the next 3 years - starting next year - instead of $9.7M, his child support payments shrink. In this case, his scheming ass ex wife = Fcked with her old gold digging ass.

Nash ed us man, id rather us give him no money and his wife take all his money... TOSB starting lineup
you were saying the exact same the past few years, with everyone bumping your jubilant/ got posts when the newest LA Dream Team imploded per par. Damn the military really does brainwash people into believing anything.
here is some evidence of what the military coaxed out of you.

Yeah it was Mitch's plan all along to trade picks for Nash so he could retire early
-15 points for that ty ass picture son. I'm a Naval Officer. I give way more orders than I take. And I certainly don't dwell in a field setting.
Back on topic. Feel free to bump this thread. Think of this thread moreso about the possiblities that the Lakers have due to their cap flexibility we'll have starting this summer. What I failed to also mention is, Pau has a massive expiring $19M contract. We may need to keep an eye on that right there. If Kwame's sorry ass could net us Pau, I wonder what a still serviceable Pau can net us? Of course, Jim may decide to just let his deal expire (like Howard's did without trading him) and wait until the time is right to pounce. By pounce I mean wait for a FA to become available due to being disgruntled or sign a max FA outright.
Here's what you farmers are failing to admit: the Lakers always roll the dice. They always set themselves up to obtain free agents. a damn draft (for the most part). Sometimes it works (like trading Vlade - our starting center - to the BRHornets for the draft rights to some dude named Kobe; this, while "hoping" that Shaq would leave a stacked team that just went to the Finals - and were poised to make multiple Finals runs). <--- In this case, it worked. Fastforward to 2004 when they picked up Mailman and GP. If Mailman didn't get hurt, Kobe is sitting on 6 rings right now. Instead, Shaq went to war in the paint with Slava Medvedenco vs. the Wallace Bros. And of course, how could we forget The Gift! that netted us Pau. 3-straight Finals appearances, 2 rangs.
So, as a Laker Fan, I'm always happy because I know that no matter who our owners are (I'll admit the Fredo jokes are funny as), we still have a smart GM that puts us in position to contend in relatively short time after breaking up a contending roster. Say what you want about MK, but he learned from the best GM in NBA history. As long as he's still on the payroll, we'll be good to go eventually. I'm hoping that it begins next year.

No, it wasn't. Howard was supposed to be here and Nash was never supposed to break his leg. happens.
Now that we are in this predicament, we will have either $11M on the payroll next year, or about $7+M if they have to use the stretch provision of Nash's contract (I personally hope they just buy his old ass out, but that's just me). This means he'll cost us around $3.2M for the next 3 years.
Building contending teams are all about cap flexibility. We saw what the cHeat did. They might have outsmarted themselves though because their big 3 all have opt-out clauses beginning this summer...the same summer we have a ton of cap flexibility. Cincidence? I think not.
son no offense but you're hopeless. first, MK wouldn't be nearly as good if he worked for a small market. In fact he'd get exposed pretty quick. LA's biggest attraction is the city, no doubt. MK basically shows a powerpoint presentation (.ppt) to various chimps, showing off beaches, mountains of coke and hookers with extreme daddy issues. That's the Pitch. As for building a team full of depth or chemistry, it's just not the LA way. In fact not every great player wants the LA way tbh. TD21 and LBJ, the best players post Jordan, don't strike me as LA types. EVen if Duncan is gay, which I doubt, he's not the type to be public about it, unlike say Magic who would cruise the LA streets with Eddie Murphy, looking for the chick with the biggest if you know what I mean.
so LA is a top destination but not the end all be all. You're crazy if you think Fredo is going to duplicate his dad's success. First, he's much dumber and less accomplished. Second, it's just a different era son. I know for you, leaving behind the streets of Tijuana, hopping over headless corpses on your way to school everyday and coming to EStados Unidos in the 80s, you always imagine the team to be that way, a symbol of hope and spending. But it's just a new era son, other owners are tired of their teams barely being compe ive and barely making a profit, hence the CBA is moving closer to NFL model. If a hard cap ever occurs, Laker nation would be in for a rude awakening, i'm just saying.
-50 points for thinking Kobe will sign for 10 million, tbh..
-15 points for considering a potential injury retirement as a slick gm move
there is such a re ed innocence to LkrFan, I feel bad for ting on his dreams. Lkrfan, I'm sure Kobe will resign at a cheaper rate, his Achilles will be A-OK, Lebron will sign with you guys along with a rebuilt, re-energized Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Jabari will land in your laps as well. You guys will be stacked, Hollywood will continue to make profits on excellent movies and we're powerless to Lakers' spending. +17 points for you son.
- Let me address all of the bolded.
- Remember, in my eyes, this board is pure entertainment. Try to keep that in context as you read any of my posts. Sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong, sometimes I make people butthurt, sometimes I make people laugh, but I'm always entertaining. I'd advise you not to take me too serious son.
at The Pitch! I'm sure that there is some truth to det.
- TD and LBJ being the best players since Jordan is debatable. Maybe not here, given the disdain you guys have for all things Lakers, but debatable. I'll go by rangs to rank the 3, personally: 5 > 4 > 2.
- Tammy IS Rupaulesque gay. No ifs, ands or butts about it: Tongue ring, Tramp Stamp, sits out games because he has -itus, etc.
- "Fredo" duplicating his dad's success is also debatable. There have been many provisions by small market owners that have been put into the CBA in order to even the playing field with large market teams. Funny, because even after they lost 16 games and thought they were sticking it to New York, Boston and LA, what did MK do? Exactly the opposit of what the CBA was designed to do: poach CP3 which would have led to Howard coming to LA with Kobe. Of course, Cuban and other made owners colluded to stop it. But it happened. MK did the unthinkable. MK should be your focus, not "Fredo". MK is the one who is paid to make brilliant GM moves. He's no Jerry Jones.
What the CBA should address are inept owners. They hire stupid GMs and scouts that are responsible for ty rosters. Even if their player pans out, they often play their way out of the team's budget. Then they end up doing dumb like what OKC did with Harden. No way do you keep Ibaka over Harden. But that's what dumbass GMs do. When dumb like that happens, players become available to big market teams like the Lakers.
So there you have it. All of that BS you posted is just that. Many Laker haters like yourself are hoping, wishing, and praying that "Fredo" s up his dad's legacy. I don't see it as long as MK is running thangs. MK was at the helm when GP and Malone came to town. He was there when Pau was gifted to us. So if there is a deal to be made, I like MK's chances of getting it done. In, the next two years he'll have a ton of cap space to do what he does. CBA has no provisions against having a ton of cap room to throw at FAs. So get out your popcorn, and let's see what happens.![]()
Maybe, maybe not. It's not like he needs the money. His $30M contract is much less than his worldwide endorsements. Especially in China. I've been there and seent it tbh.
LBJ, Wade, Bosh - all have opt out clauses. I don't recall mentioning Melo anywhere in this thread.![]()
None of those guys would every play with Kobe, let alone Murderball Kobe tbh. The only one dumb enough to do so is going to be Melo and his media-hungry wife tbh.
You're right.... LeBron is LA bound, tbh......
