In an effort to unload disgruntled center Omer Asik, the Houston Rockets have engaged in trade talks with multiple teams and are demanding an impact player in return, league sources told Yahoo Sports.Rival executives say that Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has been active in discussing possible deals for Asik, but his asking price has been too high so far. Morey has been willing to accommodate Asik's summertime trade request, but so far has found little traction on possible deals.

Unless a team is willing to give the Rockets a frontline player who can help them win in the short-term, Morey is open to acquiring a largely unprotected first-round pick in the loaded 2014 NBA draft, sources said.

Houston and Washington did discuss a deal involving Asik, league sources said, but the Wizards ultimately acquired Phoenix's Marcin Gortat to fill its hole at center. The Rockets had no interest in taking back center Emeka Okafor, who could be lost for the season because of a neck injury.
Morey and Asik's agent, Andy Miller, have been in regular contact about facilitating a trade. Asik, 27, requested the trade shortly after the Rockets reached agreement with free-agent center Dwight Howard in July.

Asik can't publicly demand a trade without risking a fine by the NBA. Those discussions have taken place in private.
It is unlikely a deal will happen before December 15, when many players in the NBA, who signed as free agents in the offseason, become eligible to be traded.
Houston coach Kevin McHale recently abandoned his short-lived attempt at starting Asik and Howard on the Rockets' frontline. Asik is considered a starting-caliber NBA center, especially dominant on the defensive end. Asik has two years and $20 million left on his deal, which runs out in the summer of 2015.
One deal that appealed to the Rockets included reuniting Dwight Howard and New Orleans forward Ryan Anderson, who played together with the Orlando Magic. New Orleans had showed interest in an Anderson-for-Asik deal around last summer's NBA draft, but talks never gathered much momentum, sources said.
The Pelicans need a strong, interior player to alleviate the physical burden of rising young star Anthony Davis
, but thus far have been unwilling to re-engage talks with Houston on the deal, sources said. Anderson is the kind of stretch four – a jump-shooting power forward – who would fit perfectly with Howard on the Houston frontline.

An unproctected first-rounder for Asik? Is Morey on drugs?

After the Harden trade, I really wouldn't put it past him to do it.

Mchale just said on 790 that he asked Omer if he was ready to play last night and Omer said no.

Yeah but Asik didn't even give it a chance when he first asked for a trade. The day Dwight signed. Problem is McHale stubbornly started them together for about the first 8 games.
It was obviously that or he comes off the bench. Either are not acceptable for him, coming off a great performance pre-Dwight era.

Since the Rockets want to run, then they don't need to clog the lane up. Twin towers is a fail. So they need shooters. Landry Fields and Steve Novak for Asik. Toronto gets a big man. Rockets get shooters. They can run Donatas Motiejunas as the stretch Power Forward when the situation calls for it.

That trade is so goddamn stupid I don't know where to begin. They need a PF and backup C for Asik.

DMo has not played enough to know whether he is a bust or not. I'd say he's at the same stage that Mahinmi was a few years ago with the Spurs. Cept DMo is better than Mahinmi.

I'd murder Morey if that's all he could get for a Top 3 defensive C in the league tbh.

He'd be handing in hus own resignation papers. The thing about him is he doesn't budge on trades and doesn't rush to make them. He will get value back as he should.

Personally, I would take Scola for Asik but his albatross contract makes him nearly untradable.

This trade essentially puts together a better shooting team than last year. Basically running the same offense but with Howard and better shooters. It's one of the few trades that worked out on ESPN trade machine. Someone come up with a better trade and we'll talk.

Actually Bonner would be a good fit for the Rockets but you can't get that trade done with Asiks huge contract

Landry Fields and Steve Novak for Asik. The Rockets don't run an offense. It's ISO Harden, ISO Harden, and everyone shoot threes. You need to stretch the floor, and dominate the paint. You also need defenders if you want to compete.

If the Rockets would trade Asik to the Spurs for Bonner, I'd personally find filler to make it work tbh.
