In an unforeseen twist that could thrust the Los Angeles Lakers straight back into le contention, two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash has successfully negotiated a sign-and-trade deal from the Phoenix Suns to the Lakers that will team him up with Kobe Bryant.

Sources told ESPN.com that Nash, with the New York Knicks also pressing hard to complete a similar sign-and-trade deal, was swayed to join the Lakers after a determined push from Bryant and because the move keeps him in the le hunt and allows him to stay in close proximity to his three children in Phoenix.

Nash will receive a three-year deal for an estimated $27 million because the Suns ultimately agreed to sign-and-trade him to the Lakers, who can absorb Nash via the trade exception they created by dealing Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks in December.
In return, the Suns get four draft picks -- first rounders in 2013 and 2015 and second rounders in 2013 and 2014.

I remember saying at the time they made that trade that Nash would be ed without Phoenix's amazing medical staff, tbh, looks like I was right....

    Lakers

Should have amnestied Nash instead of Ron, at least that would have given you some minutes off the bench, tbh.

But I guess the extra 9 mil in cap space ain't too bad either, they can sign Lowry for it

Phoenix medical staff are good, but they can't do miracles. Nash' age caught up to him, no amount of medicine or therapy can revive his career.

Prime Nash was fun to watch, not sure if he would have won it all with any squad not including Jordan or Lebron tbh

    his defense was abysmal.

I'm not sure why ppl are surprised, Nash was laying on the ground anytime he was benched back in Phoenix for years. He was done probably around the time Baron Davis was done

First order of bizness is to lock up Kobe for the rest of his career I think we owe him for 5 years around $160 millions if my calculations are correct he has earned it and that should be the end of the discussions. period

Then sign LJB but we don't have to give him max money because he will be around for many more years and he already took less money to go to Miami so why wouldn't he do the same to come to the greatest franchize in the history of the NBA and won of the most beautiful and lovely places in the world? Well of course he will so we can probably get him for around $15 millions per year so that only puts us at around $47 millions commitment if my math/calculations is correct.

Finally I really love Nashy but with all these injuries I think he may be on the downlow so perhaps it is time to do something like trade him because he might be worth the $9.7 millions next year but I am starting to have my doubts. And therefore we can also get Melo next year and have him + Kobe + LJB can you imagine? We would win it all with maybe a 3 Pete mixed in they're. Pay Melo the same as LJB at $15 millions per year and that puts us at $62 millions so we're under the cap and can then bring in others to filler the spots kinda like we did this year but that doesn't really matter because with those big 3 we could have some Eurotrash at the other positions and were NOT loosing.

I saw a article about him going to Toronto to finish his career in Canada.
It also makes it harder to get more child support.

He was arguably a top 5 PG 2 years ago. He was putting up as good numbers as Tony Parker was with Gortat instead of Tim Duncan.

Nash is owed $9.3 million for the current year and $9.7 million for next season. If he's found to be physically unable to play, he would still receive full compensation.

The NBA would then do its due diligence, sending a league-appointed physician to verify Watkins' findings.

If the league would sign off, the final year of Nash's contract would be completely removed from the Lakers' salary cap -- as long as he plays in fewer than 10 games this season.

So far, Nash has made six appearances. Has he made his last?

The Lakers have nearly cleared their books for the summer of 2014 with only Robert Sacre ($915,243) and Nash with guaranteed salary. Nick Young has a player option for $1.2 million, and rookie Elias Harris is under contract for a non-guaranteed $816,482.

With Nash's salary coming off via theoretical retirement, the Lakers could have in the neighborhood of $54 million in spending power to chase free agents and/or re-sign their own players, such as Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol.
Old news son. Not worried here.

No. Stealing requires taking something without permission. Fredo invited him in by trading 4 goddamn draft picks. He had Fredo's permission.

Nash gets on a lot here but props to him for pulling off one of the biggest trolljobs in NBA history tbh.

Don't think any of you fatnecks could have pulled off getting 27mil doing this for 2 years tbh:

Being fleeced by the greatest thing to come out of Canada since the Great Lakes (and that is debatable) is one that will leave a sour taste in us Laker fans...But, I wish him the best in taxing young Latin punani and enjoying retirement nonetheless!
