damn, first time I haven't heard yousomething. Don't get too down scro. Least you get to see your favorite player remain with the Lakers and not go to another team.
I actually don't mind this deal. Sure it wasn't smart, but Kobe has brought that team lots of exposure and money, it's a loyalty contract and Spurs did something similar with Manu. Granted, the money is not the same but Lakers like to spend more and Kirby is beloved in La La Land.
This will honestly set them back years to come, and that's not including who they give the max too.
LkrFan, my dude Killa & maybe like 2 others I am forgetting are good Laker fans. The rest are Caprisun_Man's and that ain't a good thing![]()
Difference is Manu's team is going to be competing for les during his contract while Kobe's will be competing with the Kings/Suns for 3rd place in the Pacific Division tbh.
Tbh they shouldn't even throw a max contract at anyone, they're not winning jack anyways. Might as well save some money and get a better draft pick while placating all the Kobefans.
We all know the only reason he's even playing anymore is to jack up his career points scored. He probably wants to be surrounded by scrubs so he can justify taking every shot.

Come on Killa. The Lakers are an established brand... a huge brand. We can afford to go through a rebuilding process without having a superstar. If Kobe had walked, how long do you think we would have had to wait for another big name to walk through the door? This move was made to appease Time Warner, that's it. It has nothing to do with trying to win another le. The Lakers are not winning another le with Kobe Bryant as their go to guy. It's a harsh reality, but its obvious.
A tough day for REAL Laker fans tbh ..
I dont think it hurt us in Free Agency, because I doubt Lebron or Melo are coming. Heck even Klove the next year is doubtful even BEFORE he re-signed. But this makes our situation less flexible ... and probably means we lose Pau in the off-season or unload him for peanuts at trade deadline. Either way we did not get better as far as I can tell. Glad to have Kobe back ...but if I am going to be honest even though he is 10x better than Coward ..if I did NOt want him back at the max ...
How can I support this?
Definitely agree. Spurs always try to find team guys. Kobe is cashing out and I don't blame him.
Ok, then we agree.
and I don't see Kobe winning anywhere as the main threat ... as #2 ...MAYBE.
And he just limited our chances to get that #1 guy and the #3(Pau) would need to be let go to get that #2 ... I just cant see the rebuilding plan right now.
But I do get why from a business perspective why they did this. The problem is as REAL Laker fan this best way to grow your business is by winning les. Not sure how this HELPs that ...
no offense Killa but how is that different from the past?
See, there are still moments where you realize underneath the terrible personality and nurato loving, that Buddy still has it in him (no pun intended) to be a serviceable member of the board. A glimmer of hope on an otherwise bleak day in LA LA land.
I'm torn on what LA should do. They have committed to Kobe for 2 years, so they should do everything they can to win now IMO. Do anything you can to nab a Melo type guy & make a trade for another good, but overpaid player that a team is willing to salary dump.
I don't think that, given the cir stances, that they should spread their money out evenly and sign 3 7M type players. They should at least go as star heavy as they can, swing for the fences and not mess up any cap space for 2 years down the road. Going to be tough because they don't have many trade assets (outside of expiring contracts) and they will still rely on a max type player to take less than Kobe which obviously is difficult.
Don't be dense.
I face the same issue except I wanted us to hit the lottery this year and come back hard next season ...
Well, now you see what the Laker's brass really thinks of Laker fans. I have been saying for a long time that Laker fans are the dumbest, worst fans (not all, but most). This moves shows that ownership thinks Laker fan is really uneducated Kobe fans who will just take this. I think they are probably correct too.
I'm just going to piggyback what Killa said--I understand the loyalty aspect but it wasn't good business in the sense of fielding a championship caliber team. Unless there is a trick up Kupchak and Fredo's sleeve, I don't see this helping us move up from the outside looking in.
There is no rebuilding plan at this point. We lost out on the CP3 deal, gambled with Bynum for Howard and lost, and now overpaid Kobe when we could have gotten him for half of what we paid. We've become the Walt Disney on the NBA. Rehashing big names but flopping at the box office. We blew it for 2014. We could have started all over and kept Kobe for a discount.
If the Lakers play it smart then this isn't a death knell and they can recover fairly quickly after Kirby's contract is up but if they pull another panic move and throw near max money at losers like Melo than they're irrelevant for however long they sign him tbh.
That's where LA messed up. Too much reliance on Kobe + terrible management. If the Spurs didn't trade for/land a young guy in Kawhi (lottery talent), it would have been damn tough to reach the finals. LA needed a cheap young stud on top of managing their cap space. They seemingly have failed at both.
They can always luck out into a Tyson Chandler to the Mavs type situation where things just click. But that would require Kobe to be full health, another star coming to play with them and then landing that Tyson type player in a trade (or vice versa). But obviously that is pretty far fetched.
The funny thing is, the Lakers did a good job with minimum guys this year which is very hard to do and they won't be able to keep those guys for the min next year because they played so well (Farmar, Henry...)![]()
Trolling aside, it's pretty ridiculous how bad the Laker brass has been since Phil left... Dolanesque tbh. They could have hired me and even I couldn't have done a better job of sabotaging the franchise for next decade as bad as Fredo and Mitch have tbh.
