Indeed. Marco has vision and doesn't stand around like an SNL cast member...
Manu = 6 - 2

Boozer was 100.5 and Dwight was 100.1
in the 11-12 season, Boozer was #2 in the league at 95.2, ahead of Dwight, Noah, etc.
the year before he was 7th at 98.7
either boozer is a ridiculous statistically anomaly, or defensive rating is pure crap tbh because boozer is truly a defender
Lol, to me Marco is here to amend Manu sloppiness, they play great together and I hope Pop keeps it that way.
Smaller rotations, basic and lethal, sometimes I remember the crappy players we had like Mason Jr or ie and even when they came I was like WTF, why is that on our team? anyway Im happy with our players as long De Culo is inactive, and Bon Bon only works for regular season.
Chicago overall was a top defensive team... other than actual individual stats, all stats get some variance depending who's on the floor and who is not (both on your team and the opposition). That's why there's all sorts of adjustments over those stats (ie: plus/minus vs adjusted plus/minus). If anything, everybody gets rated under the same criteria, and considering Belli has the same teammates than Neal had, and plays with pretty much the same unit, it should be somewhat of a fair comparison.
Also, if you look at defensive rating this season for the Spurs so far (removing players that didn't play many minutes, like Nando), you have : Kawhi, Danny, Tim, Patty in the top 4, which more or less passes the eye test.
tbh, Patty's D has been great this season too, and obviously that might influence a bit the overall numbers. IMO, the second unit hasn't been all offense, they've played great defense too.
Acknowledged.![]()
Marco doesn't take fast break threes all the time like Neal.
His defense has been fine so far, but his defense was nearly as bad as Neal's the past few seasons, tbh..
He had the worst defensive RAPM and worst defensive rating on the Bulls roster last year..
I thought Beli would be a slight upgrade over Neal but not a significant difference, I've been wrong so far, tbh..
I hated Neal's game on and off the court(being a rapist and all), but I've never liked Beli's game either..it's good to see that he's giving more effort on defense and has improved his shot selection with the Spurs so far..
Going into the season I was expecting much worse due to what you point out. But he's been a gratifying surprise so far... hope it's a season long thing.
Tbh something big and long lol
1-Individual defensive rating is essentially team defensive rating minus (in a good way) blocks, steals defensive boards so the Spurs being unreal defensively to start the season explains why so many Spurs are putting up great numbers this season and why Boozer has had elite numbers in recent years.
2-I've been wrong about Beli so far. I admit that and hope it continues. If this Beli had been on the team instead of Neal last season, the Spurs win in six.
3-He's been decent as a three so far, but the team has not faced Durant, George or James yet. He didn't look great on bigger players so far, so it's possible he can't stay add the backup three in the post-season.
4-He was the player that the team chose to use the MLE on. Next time people try to blame Ayres for costing the Spurs a chance at Kirilenko or some other free agent, remember that the team essentially chose Beli over those players. So far, that seems like it was a good choice.
I've been a huge advocate and major fan of Gary Neal's. Especially considering his story and how he played for us for pennies for three seasons.
All that being said, I'm glad we have Belinelli now and Gary has moved on. This gives Gary a chance to make some cash, and Marco is definitely looking like a solid upgrade. The biggest downgrade with Belinelli is his knowledge of the system. But that will upgrade quickly as hes already showing great things.
Happy to have him on board! Good luck to you Neal!
When a defender is near Beli, he looks out for a better shot. When a defender is near Neal, he just found his favorite shot.
Meh... Who knows, Neal was the best player in a crucial game, he helped way more than someone like Splitter...
lolll. Belli passes the eye test to me. He just seems more active and gets his hand on the bball defensively. He's cold blooded and unselfish, and knows where to take his shots.
Guess time will tell, most of the skeptics are simply saying that's they're about the same level... Neal was hated a lot because he was asked by Pop to run the point, and in the end he wasn't that bad at it, not worse than the Finals version of Manu at least...
But I guess Beli is gonna shoot better than 47% from 3 in the Finals as well as hit a season saving shot in the PO... He will probably also run the point if Mills ever gets injured... I mean it's so easy to do that Gary Neal could do it...
Neal is a beast at making bad shots which is an ability that really shines in the POs, that's why he was so great during his stint... Beli is playing well in blowouts so far but as usual on ST, premature ejaculators cant help themselves...
Sorry but Belli can shoot just as well as Neal and is a billion times the playmaker.
It really is no content between Maco and Neal. Not even close.
So far, this is true.
Yes Neal could make bad shots but that means he was also taking bad shots in the first place. There is no doubt he is a more explosive scorer than Belinelli but when Neal gets in the zone he takes shots away from the rest of the team; thus our overall offensive rhythm suffers.
People keep mentioning the blowouts as a way to slight Belinelli's performance so far, do you ever think the reason we are blowing teams out, in part, is because of his impact on the court?
That was gonna be my question. Make vs take. Neal can't create his own shot so he gets lots of bad ones. Or he just chucks up heat checks at the top of the key. Either way, lame.
Marco is making an impact. Your point is valid.

It's a fair point, time will tell ultimately.
How do their salaries compare? You cannot compare a 100K Benz to a 25K Toyota, regardless if you traded one in for the other.
Neal: Great shooter, ty ball player, poor passer, low BB IQ
Marco: Great shooter, good ball player, great passer, high BB IQ.
Ball handing Bel
Shot selection Bel
Defense Bel
Movement off the ball Bel
Passing Bel
Big Shots Neal
Rebounding Bel
Its not even close so far.
