I'm not even sure his athleticism is all that great either. Ayres missed five dunks in one game. Not to mention, he tore his ACL in his rookie season.
I think Draft Express clocked it at 32 inches. Not bad at all. He missed 5 dunks in a game against the Wizards and its becoming about of his narrative?

Torn ACL in right knee a few years back.
Yes, but still fairly athletic. I guess it doesn't matter all that much now...

They clearly need to package some of the boat load of bums populating the back end of their roster, along with some combination of overseas rights/picks, for a player of at least some level of significance.

Baynes definitely isn't the answer and even in the unlikely event Thomas is, he more than likely won't get the chance to show it anyway. The answer to backup center is Splitter. He needs to be the third big; Duncan's backup and sometimes partner in certain match-ups. The starting PF needs to be either Diaw or some combo forward type acquired via trade. They won't pursue guys like Young, Green or Chandler, because of their contracts, but at least M. Williams then or someone of that ilk. Enough of this big, clunky, late 90s/early 00s style rotation.
I agree. Diaw to start and go small off the bench with Splitter. Splitter could still log 25 mpg playing behind Duncan and playing along side of him, Leonard could play most of the backup minutes with Bonner or Ayers getting less than 10 minutes in certain games. We need Leonard to get going against opposing second units. He seems to struggle with Parker on the floor (him being aggressive off the dribble).

    Duncan 28 mpg
    Diaw-28 mpg
    Splitter -25
    Leonard + Bonner/ Ayers-15 mpg

I'd be in favor of getting Al Aminu. He is on a 1 year deal (I believe for 6 million) He is technically a wing but plays more like a PF. Long, Athletic and boards very well. Maybe Chip can make him into a respectable 3pt shooter. The problem is that they'd want a big and Baynes, Bonner or Ayers likely won't cut it.

Baynes has never impressed me, tbh, his potential is Aaron Gray, but at this point, players like Baynes and even Thomas should see a few spot minutes if Ayres continues to struggle, tbh..

I don't expect anything from any of these scrubs, but if Ayres continues to struggle, Pop should be open to trying alternatives IMO..he isn't nearly good enough to have a designated spot in the rotation over anybody on an NBA roster, tbh..
    This ^^^^

Every one of the top 8-9 players in the rotation simply needs to play better. The only player of the relevant bunch playing better than last year is Diaw.

Once that happens, we will forget about the POS acquisition, tbh.

Ayres is a slightly slower Francisco Elson without the scoring.

    No wonder Pop loves him.

We shall see if he can crack the rotation. I'm not saying he can't. Outside of Duncan, Diaw and Twilight, the other 3 each has flaws that currently keep them from being everyday rotation players.
Since Malcolm is a D-League player I'm not expecting much but I'm still in favor of them trying out players.

Tiago being hurt actually accentuates his (and Bonner) minutes... but, this if there's a time in the season for Pop to play him and see what he has, this is it, tbh...

Think you're giving Ayres too much credit.

, I'd take Shawnelle Scott or Cherokee Parks right about now.

Fair enough. Ayres is a slower Francisco Elson without the scoring or b-ball IQ (for what it was).

    Add butterfingers.

Ayres can't dunk, can't do gimme lay ups, basically Ayres can't do what big men are supposed to do. Ayres is big for no reason.

Clueless s blaming Jeff Ayres because he's bad at basketball. RC signed him using MLE money, having no corporate knowledge of him whatsoever. He signed purely on blind faith. Pop continues to play him regardless.yet, somhow it's Ayres fault. Why do you think this was Indiana's sixth big?

Ayres fits Pops' system seamlessly in my opinion. He sets great picks, and knows when to expect the ball. It's his inability to complete wide open lay ups and dunks that makes him look like a scrub out there.

Looks like??? No, that's what makes him a scrub. Just because a player fits the system doesn't make him good.

wasting the MLE on this failure

Even though he's an ASU product I just can't defend him. Guy is not an NBA caliber player.

Unfortunate, but R.C and Pop whiffed on this one.

One of the worst players I've seen play in the league thus far this year.

Hopefully Malcolm Thomas can salvage this.
Unfortunately, many of us who watch the NBA regularly outside of the Spurs and saw him play knew this was a huge possibility. It's why many of us were dumbfounded when the Spurs wasted any opportunity to add to the team via cap space for a player of his caliber. Didn't make sense then, definitely doesn't make sense now. Seems like Boylen should be blamed for talking this guy up.

Almost every NBA team has a player like this on the roster...typically several. As Spurfans, we're used to having a stacked roster with 13 guys who are all NBA-ready.

It's perfectly acceptable to have 1-3 ty players on the team. However, the catch is, you don't actually play them in big games.
