I want to see some toughness from him... I want to see him flatten somebody or get in some people's faces. We are lacking an enforcer on this team. We need somebody to make toughness infectious.

Anyone look at the replays and/or advance metrics and get a handle on Jeff's defense? I have no idea if he's any good on that side of the court or not.

His o hasn't been too impressive to say the least.

wasting the MLE on this failure.
Unfortunately, many of us who watch the NBA regularly outside of the Spurs and saw him play knew this was a huge possibility. It's why many of us were dumbfounded when the Spurs wasted any opportunity to add to the team via cap space for a player of his caliber. Didn't make sense then, definitely doesn't make sense now. Seems like Boylen should be blamed for talking this guy up.
The Spurs committed to using the MLE when they signed Belinelli. Don't confuse mine and more notably Bruno's off-season hypotheticals for plans the team was ever considering. Ginobili was always going to get his money, so really, not much was lost on signing Ayres. Maybe the team could have signed Thomas to a four year deal, or maybe they could have signed him and another prospect like Bertans to long-term deals. But that's about it.

Bottom line, Beli was the MLE acquisition, and he seems to have been a good one. I don't know which big would have been a better value for Ayres' money. Maybe they should have signed no one after missing out on Cunningham. But if they felt they needed a sixth big, then they did about as well as we could have expected them to.

Ayres is an end of the bench player and is paid like one. Saying that, he has been damn bad offensively, even for an end of the bench player. He can't make a layup or a jump shot.

I still don't get what Spurs did this summer when they screw their cap space for him. However, to be honest with myself, I wanted Spurs to sign Kirilenko and he has serious health issue. It's hard to whined too much given that.

I cut the game off once that fool missed that chipy layup! We gave up Blair for this trash
we gave up on Blair because he didn't have the necessary size and showed no improvement on D.

I'm still not giving up on him, he has size and decent athleticism and defensive awareness, start to not play him with Marco and or Patty, and he'll perhaps be a little better. I never wanted in the first place, but right now i see him as a developmental project, of course there is not much upside but whatever.. Pop shouldn't force the bench as he does, it's the starters that need to be played.

I'd still take both of those of Airs. Thomas can hit the three and Bane has the bull in a china shop mentality. Errors is basically on the court because teams aren't allowed to have only 4 players out there and Pop is too braindead to see that he sucks.

It's tough seeing all this when the team whose city I live in signed several D-Leaguers or D-League quality players and made them look awesome or passable (Marcus Morris, Miles Plumlee, PJ Tucker)...

I think Pop has this misinterpretation about Jeff. I think he sees him as a Nick Collison type of player which we've all seen that he is not. He's not the guy Pop is going to draw plays for.

He's going to get the ball on broken and hustle plays. The problem with him though is he doesn't have the ball in most possessions, so when he gets it, its foreign to him. As Spurs fans, we expect so much out of "garbage" players.

We should know that even though Spurs are known for finding diamonds in the rough, not ever player we sign is that.

So what are expectations for a guy like Jeff? A few board? Good screen setter? Couple blocks? Decent rim defender? Or maybe a little of everything.

The answer is anything positive. Look, it's so easy for us to say Trade Jeff. Get rid of this asshole. The question is....................WHO?

Sure there are other guys in the league that are better than him. But what does it cost? Millions we don't have. A player with an ego. A player that es about playing time when he aint getting any. The point is this Spurs fans, it may be ugly at times and we might wanna throw our beer at the tv when this guy misses a point blank layup/dunk, but this dude plays with heart and is more of a positive for this team than a negative. Besides weren't all of you ing about having Dejuan on the team, some even saying "anybody is better than blair", yet here you are again. Finding yourselves ing about another player who isn't an all-star PF off the bench. I like Ayres. I stand by what I initially thought..................Solid pick-up for the Spurs.

I see what you are saying as a whole but he is what 2.4 and 2.3 a game as far as boards and pts? He is shooting 42% as well so it's hard for me to say he is a solid pickup by any means so far. I have to see alot more.

I mean, when baynes plays the way he did tonight, it's hard not to want a better look at him and even harder to justify Ayres continuing to receive minutes over him if he can prove to be consistent....
