    Consoles.

For those closed minded, console only gamers hating on PC for the stereotypical reasons..don't worry, you'll be the proud owner of Steambox/PC sooner than later..

Steam just eclipsed 7 million concurrent users a week ago, up 1 million from last years record. On top of that they just leapfrogged the active Xbox Live user base with over 65 million users. Give Gabe Newell three years, he will be sitting atop the video game industry.

What? No. Not even. For the past 8+ years it's been "PCs are dying and won't be around much longer because the entire world is moving to consoles."

Further explain yourself please. I've been out of the loop and reading up the wiki it continues to use the word "console".

That's basically what is, NASpurs. Gabe Newell is taking the convenience of consoles, with the power and expandability of PC's. The Steambox is basically the moderately priced PC for those who simply refuse to buy the parts and build. Building the PC is more fun than you would think, and may make you some money down the road.

If you had asked me that about 5 or so years ago I'd say hardcore gamer but these days I'm playing very little.

But I also dont considered myself a casual gamer. At this point I'm sort of a tweener. I can play certain games for half a day when I put myself up to and there are times where I go months without playing a game.

Nobody cares about the stats huh? 7 million concurrent users and over 65 million people is a lot of in' people tbh. Like I said, give it some time. Once it becomes the "cool thing to have" you will have all of the typical bandwagon followers who can't think for themselves declaring themselves as "die hard PC gamers".

I enjoy the discussion and the back and forth. Not forcing anyone to debate the issue, I make my comments and if no one responds to it, no worries about that, either. I typically respond to stuff like, "I like consoles better because you can play them on a big TV" or "consoles are better because you can use a controller" and that sort of thing.
I think you've made very clear what your preference is. IMO, what you need to understand is that if somebody replies "I rather play that on a console", it's not a dig, and they're not "wrong". It's their preference, and for them, it might be the superior choice, even if you seemingly don't understand why. It's actually a very similar situation when people discuss using iOS or Android.

They've made huge strides to the point where they're very, very easy to use, particularly if you're running a distribution service like Steam.
I've used Steam many times. It's not a console experience. That's why Valve is putting Steam in a console format, running on a tailored system that's unobtrusive. They apparently get it. We'll see the final product.

My point was that console games have had issues just like PC games, and the problems will likely be very generalized now that consoles are running x86.
This is another misunderstanding that I'm not sure where you picked up from. Because they run on the same architecture, it doesn't mean they're anything like PCs. They're a closed system, running an OS specifically tailored for that hardware architecture. On a regular PC you can't take shortcuts with the hardware because you have to support a plethora of configurations. There's no such thing in these closed systems. There's both benefits and drawbacks to it, but the idea that because they now use x86 hardware it's "closer" to a PC and conversely "away" from vintage console is, at the very least, misguided.

The original XBox also was x86, and they still shipped buggy games and you could still update them. That was still completely a console experience that had little to do with PCs.

Did you fools say that during our flame war too? Probably did, it's one of the better stereotypes out there tbh.

I would assume then if you weren't consumed with adult life, you would still be a hardcore gamer, right? If so, why are you against PC gaming?

And that steambox looks pretty intriguing. I may give it a chance.

As far as looks it doesn't fair better than the trapbox but its definitely a step up from chaiming you to your computer. You can pretty much set the steambox as you would a console, only its not a console.

If Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft get on board, I'll jump as well. But in the meantime, why would I want this thing? Serious question. Plus there's a lot of hypocrisy in using a "Steambox" as your argument because you just said it's a console.

Shiiit, if they can figure out how to do cloud gaming like Gaikai, I would rather do that. I don't play much multiplayer so if there's a little input lag, I wouldn't mind.

the Steambox tbh, you will get less bang for the buck. Convenience is never cheap.

Mini ITX has been available, it's a little bigger than a Wii..

You can fit a ing 780ti in that if you wanted to.

I used to say that about not physically owning any games when moving to digital and now I "own" digital copies of games, so if it's like a subscription service like Netflix, I would jump on board (assuming the internet tech is there).

Nah, don't get it twisted. It's a PC at the end of the day. You get a case similar to a console in size and style, plus a dedicated controller (which I must admit looks like IMO) but you get to pick the components it ships with.

For newbs like me with have to have set up. I have no idea how to set up a gaming rig. That goes over my head.

I hear you, it's intimidating when you first browse parts and see a load of numbers, sockets, and names, but a couple tutorial vids later and it's not too bad. The parts in most cases will not allow you to install incorrectly because they only fit one way.

I've used Steam many times. It's not a console experience. That's why Valve is putting Steam in a console format, running on a tailored system that's unobtrusive. They apparently get it. We'll see the final product.
I can't imagine much different than Steam's Big Picture Mode, other than the supposed performance boost due to a less resource wasting OS.

Steam regularly gives free trial weekends of the full copy of games, but no streaming. , browse the torrents online and try whatever you want, buy the games you truly enjoy. I haven't wasted any money on games in over a year, they've all been discounted or "borrowed".
