yeah there's just no way to truly know that so the argument is pointless. but there's plenty of evidence of him covering for players when they get in tight spots. tattoogate brought down Tressel, but Sergio Kindle driving drunk and running his car into someones living room then fleeing the scene then Mack playing him in the next game is some straight up G .
There is criminal behavior in every locker room. Mack avoided major violations which is more than most coaches at elite programs have done over the past 15 yrs, that is a fact.
