Ukraine: On the Edge of Empires

Ukraine was under Russia's boot for 70 years.
Naturally the 99% would want to be associated with the democratic West, but their 1% prefers being bought out, co-opted by the autocratic Russians.
^lol you have absolutely no grasp on European politics, even less than you do on American politics which is really saying something. Actually read the article it's a good explanation of the situation over there.
That place is a trip. millions are in the square outside protesting demanding he not do the deal. He does the deal anyway and says he doesn't care if he doesn't get reelected; he just will not run again.
I guess he got paid.
Our illusion of choice is better than theirs I suppose.
Putin is certainly holding them hostage in some ways (trade/oil/gas), but Yanukovych still seems to have a lot of support in the eastern part of the country (Which leans heavily toward Russia).
The situation certainly makes a lot more sense after reading that article, tbh.
Their current leader played Europe as a bargaining chip. Now they got their money from mother Russia. Watch it go down a black hole.
Yep, this is what the western brainwashed cheerleaders who think that we're always the "good guys" and that everyone else is out to do evil crowd doesn't understand. Ukraine's economic interests lie with Russia, there is no benefit for them in joining the EU and it's a country divided right now on the issue.
No it does not, it lies with Europe. Their survival currently lies with Russia. But their long term economic health lies solidly in Europe. That loaned money will go down a corrupt path. It does nothing in the long run. Or short run depending on your time frame. Absolutely nothing. It just a face saver.
you're a ing simpleton. ukraine is deeply intertwined culturally and economically with russia and you are just talking out of your ing ty unwiped ass. aside from being one of their biggest trading partners, russia supplies most of their natural resources and is offering them a great deal on them for signing the deal with russia. cheap energy prices are crucial for a developing economy to take off and experience good growth. why would they want to join the EU just to sign on to all that debt? look at italy, spain, etc the EU has been mostly a failure and if it weren't for germany the whole thing would have crashed a long time ago. , there's always the threat of germany getting tired of bailing out other countries and saying this and bailing out of the EU.
And Russia has been a shining example of what you mindless twit?
They can't even feed their own people. Russia survives as a one way economy, petroleum. And they do that poorly.
in Nazi ass re .
russia is a shining ing example of supplying them with the natural resources they need to run their economy with cheap energy prices you re ed ass mother er
You read about the trouble with the euro and think Russia is some shining bastion of economic prowess.
You are an idiot. Because Europe is having trouble Russia is a healthy shining economy?
Their economy will be like that of Russia. One dimensional and in tatters. You read about Greece, Spain and Italy having problems so you assume their standard of living and economy is worse than Eastern European countries still under Russia's shadow? You are a fool and have quite obvious never traveled. Most Russians live like dogs compared to the west.
I didn't say that Russia was the gold standard of a solid economy. I said that ukraines economic interests lie with Russia, for reasons that ive explained. In the eastern part of Ukraine people understand this.
dont get me wrong I also hate Russia. Had you assholes ed off and stayed out of the fight like Patton said they wouldn't be an issue today.
Read again.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/article...-violence.htmlViolence between Ukraine’s authorities and the opposition erupted again on the streets of Kyiv today, with at least 25 people killed in the clashes. Police forces armed with machine guns stormed the Madian, while both sides are maneuvering to consolidate their own paramilitary forces to wage war for the country’s future.
