I think their plan was to scapegoat Gentry but didn't realize how much the fans/media adored him till after they fired him. Once Jude La Cava went on that rant on live TV about how ed up it was to replace Gentry with Hunter, Sarver & co. saw a great opportunity to flip it around by scapegoating the guy who fired Gentry rather than Gentry himself. Get rid of Blanks and Hunter while replacing Hunter with a local favorite the media/fans love as the new coach, and it's an easy sell.
Idk what it is about Babby that makes the local media so protective of him. They had no problem going after Kerr and D'antoni who were at least professionals, but the guy who used the Suns as a piggy bank for his clients Josh Childress and Hedo Turkoglu is untouchable.
