The ECF sucks something bad. I can see the NBA manipulating the draft enough to get Wiggins and Parker in the east. I'm thinking Philly and Toronto. No need for the NBA to help the lakers out. The west is stacked with great teams and the lakers have been known to lure prime time players to the west coast.
whats the chances of the bobcats geettin the no.1 pick and jordan doesnt select neither wiggins or parker...lmao
just invert his current # imho... how about 6?![]()
Guy can't play a lick of defense. Good luck winning a le with a player who scores 25 and gives up 25 nightly. Also, he'll really struggle against lanky athletic defenders. Marion would shut him the down.
I think they might go for a big man in this draft. If I had the option to pick between Randle/Parker/Embiid, I'd lean towards Embiid if I were the Lakers. If they get Melo, they'd have two 20+ ppg scorers in Kirby and fatty, now they need a defensive big man to anchor the D. Embiid is a terrific rebounder, defender and a very efficient scorer.
Embiid's ceiling is much higher. He has a 7'5 wingspan and he can knock down mid-range shots and he also has a nice hook shot.
He doesn't have much experience as a player, which means he just has a lot more room to grow. His post game is shaky and he's not exactly the next Shaq, but I think he could become a great defensive big like TC with an efficient offensive game (alley oops, fastbreak dunks and what not).
I've followed many rooks and Embiid is the most promising to me as a defensive player and a rebounder, he moves really well for his size, he runs like a PG in transition and his dunks are impressive for a man his size. Reminds me of Ibaka. But he's much bigger.
Randle is prototypical, 20-10 PF. Love his brute strength and skills around the hoop.
Embiid has long been my sleeper lotto pick. My hope entering the season was that the Suns would suck, draft Randle, then have Embiid remain a "raw" project who slips to them with the late lottery/mid-round 1sts from Minnesota or Washington.
I've said it for a year. Embiid is a non-pussy Garnett. His skillset, size, passion. He really has it all. He's just so raw, but he is so committed to improving, he gets better every game.
I doubt Randle or Embiid are available beyond top-5.
Wiggins
Randle
Parker
Embiid
Smart
Exum
Gordon
Randle is a risky pick to me. He can't use his right hand and he's a 6'9 PF. People seem to be hyped about him but I'm not really seeing it right now. Maybe I'm a little harsh on the kid. It's just that every year there are these 6'7-6'9 PFs with limited shooting and defensive abilities and they hardly ever pan out.
I'm talking about Wes Johnson, Beasley, Bennet, Derrick Williams. They all were lotto picks and tweener PFs with similar scouting reports, they were potent offensive players with a lack of IQ on D. Their scoring didn't exactly translate to the NBA like it was expected so they became liabilities due to their lack of D.
All those failed because idiot teams played them mostly at SF.
Randle needs to add a jumper and develop a left hand, but he's one of the best and truest low-post prospects I've seen in a while. Get him a PG who can pass into the post and not the eternally selfish, not-so-surprisingly crappy Harrison twins and he scores 30 a game in 5 years. He's Amare, but five years more advanced with no injury history.
You put Randle/Embiid in same frontcourt (or Randle/Noel --- I see you Philly) and you have offense, defense, athleticism, and dominant rebounding.
No team beyond the theoretical preseason Suns were in position to do so, however, and they passed on Noel, and now don't suck so both Randle and Embiid are out unless they trade up.
He's played 15 games in college. A bit premature to be drawing conclusions already.
It's not in his nature to defend. Factor in his limited lateral quickness and stunted explosion and you have Carmelo, minus the daft touch. I think the touch comes. Defense and improved athleticism, not likely.
I agree, his defense will be an issue and his limited athleticism and slow first step will keep him from becoming that great.
Best case I see another Melo, but even that's too generous, because young Melo was so dominant on the scoring end. I don't really see that from Parker yet. The potential is there, but would I pick him first? I think I'd go with Wiggins because of the higher ceiling and the athleticism.
Wiggins' shot seems improved, that's a big thing because he can certainly get a lot of points at the line and in transition due to his quickness and great lateral movement. I also like Wiggins' defense, I watched the entire game vs. Duke, where he was in foul trouble guarding Parker in the 1st half but locked him down at the end and scored from mid-range/transition to close the game out. I like his game a lot more.
Damn he looked dominant in that game, hit the boards, got some nice blocks and altered shots, killed them from deep. He's impressed me despite his averages, I've seen a lot of improvement in his game. If he can improve his shot even further he'll be a 20 ppg scorer easily.
Reminds me of D.Rose. A quiet, humble kid with superb athletic ability, he has all the tools to become an all-star in the NBA.
Parker = Glenn Robinson
Not quite Melo or Pierce, but damn good. Least ways on offense.
Wiggins is suffering from too much scrutiny. He is everything you want and need in a traditional NBA wing: elite athleticism, pro typical body, creative scoring arsenal, and intensity on defense and boards. People get pissed because he's efficient and smooth, mistaking it for passive and apathetic.
Paralysis by analysis at its finest.
As he develops, I have no doubts he asserts himself. His intensity on defense suggests he's not apathetic, and his shot selection suggests he understands the nuances that separate scorers from chuckers. With experience, I truly believe he's that player that gets better every year for the first 10 years of his career, who appears to have no ceiling.
On pure potential alone:
Wiggins
Randle
Embiid
Exum
Parker
Gordon
Smart
Vonleh
Young
Cauley-Stein
That's my top-10 as far as pro prospects.
If a team picks Parker over Wiggins, GM and coach are fired within two years.
^ how can Randle be on par with Embid on potential...
It's Wiggings and Embiid and then every one else imo.
Wrong.
Exum and Randle are rediculous prospects with elite athleticism, physical tools and Randle has the " you" at ude many want to see from the other elite prospects.
We'll have to see how he acts after he gets that first paycheck.
Typically people who play defense for free continue to do so for pay.
I just dont see everything folks here are seeing. Tough to say Parker cant play defense when Coach K relies on so much zone to hide his 3 guard alignment on defense. I actually give credit to Parker for playing almost a PF spot in the zone .....
I cant say for sure he will be better than Wiggins. But i wish Wiggins was more aggressive.
Maybe like Paul George he can develop that later but comparisons to Lebron for wiggins are laughable ... and right now even to durant seems like a stretch ...KD was a beast in the same conference for a weaker bball power.
Wiggins has all the physical tools that Bron did coming into the league...He's just a little skinnier and not as good of a passer. But the hops are there. And he's improved a ton since his HS days. It's actually nice to see him not chuck that many shots. He tries to be a team player, though he could improve his playmaking abilities.
Truth be told, Parker's offense looks better now, but he doesn't have the ceiling that Wiggins does. Parker is not nearly as athletic. He's 40 pounds heavier. After getting injured he gained a lot of weight. He isn't a great defender by any means. Wiggins locked him down head to head in the clutch and won the game for his team.
I just don't see why Parker is that special. Just because he has the better stats at college? We all know that stats don't matter that much in college. It's about the potential. Wiggins has much more potential.
Not even comparing Parker. since DMC brought up expectations it's Wiggins not Parker drawing LBJ comparisons (SI cover not withstanding) I dont care about stats or do you not know you are quoting. duke does rely on Jabari more so of course his stats will be better ...
