I watched Don Jon a couple more times after I downloaded the English-voiced version and I have to pretend/try not to see Levitt's face. That bas is flat out a bas and it's disgusting as to watch him masturbating, pulling pieces of paper from the box to absorb the mucus squirting out of his pipe. It's an absolute insult for our goddess to match a film like this, with such an inglorious head that Levitt is tbh.

I've been watching "Amadeus: Director's Cut" on the cable the last couple days (I DVR'ed it). As a hard rule I abhor "Director Cuts"---but, this treatment is sublime. It is a different film and much richer with the additional materiel. Bless the people who went to the trouble to restore this film.

    - Solid movie that will keep you engaged in its 3-hour entirety

    Captain Phillips - 8.5/10

    2 Gunz - 8/10
    - Any action movie with my Denzel in it is watchable for me

"La vie d'Adele" aka "Blue Is the Warmest Color" (American le) - 9.5/10

By far THE best movie of 2013, imo. I strongly recommend.

Phantom of the Paradise -- WTF/10

I have no idea why so many of the major drama directors of the 70s (De Palma in this case, but also Scorsese, Bogdonovich, Altman and Coppola kind of) wanted to do musicals, and even less of an idea how they convinced studios to greenlight them.

Paul Williams is the devil though. So there's that.

Generally agree, even though Scorsese's musical is my very favorite movie of all time.

Pennies From Heaven is fantastic, too, though its an early 80s bleak 70s musical.

Still need to get around to seeing the BBC version of Pennies. I do like some of those I listed, but I'm surprised they kept going to that well after so many flops. Phantom had to have been a testament to the power of cocaine.

The film was pretty much what I expected from Harmony Korine. I guess that's why I enjoyed it.

American Hustle - 7.5 out of 10. Aside for Amy Adams' plunging necklines, there wasn't very much in this movie that stays with you. But enjoyable, in a forgettable kind of way.

Out of the Furnace - 8.0 out of 10. The film takes itself too seriously, but almost pulls it off. Sad story, well told. Almost seems like somebody tried to answer the question: "what would a modern day Hemmingway novel look like on film?"

About Time - 8.5 out of 10. They sold this as a romantic comedy, and I suppose it has it's moments as one, but it's really a story about fathers and sons, growing up, and the choices we make. Unexpectedly affecting.

Hobbit: DOS - 7.5 out of 10. This pretty much sums it up./ But I will say the dragon was badass. Weta workshop just dropped the mic at Game of Thrones' feet.

With all this Elisa Lam talk I watched the US version of Dark Water and skimmed the original. 4/10 for the US. Decent acting and Roosevelt Island scenery of personal interest couldn't make up for the contrivances of the source material, i.e., dead kids are assholes.

Dark Corner is on Movies! now. Lucille Ball was really fairly well suited for high-contrast noir, and the shoulder pads -- my God, the shoulder pads!

    "Blue Jasmine" - 8.5/10

Classic Woody movie, one of his best in the past decade or so, imho. Cate Blanchett brilliant as always, one of my favourite actresses for years now. I liked it and recommend it.

so am I the only one that thinks Jennifer Lawrence can't really act?

Winter's Bone was a good typecast role for her, but she's been hard to watch in everything I've seen her in since.

Definitely not, I'd be one of the last few guys in the world to ever rate that Lawrence (either as an actress or celebrity, or anything), tbh.
