We're half way through with the season, top 3 in the West, the Big 3 are still productive, and overall this will probably be the best year we'll have by at least 2019.

But I think the 2013 Finals have sort of ruined the majority's patience this season. Everyone seems rushed to get back to the playoffs when in all honesty, I'm not sure if we can crack the finals this year. With so many good teams (OKC, Houston, Portland, Golden State, etc.) I feel it's just a matter of who catches fire at the right time. And from that perspective it can be anyone from the top 5.

Fact is.. this is probably the last or 2nd last season we'll have real Spurs basketball. By real I mean a starting five of Parker-American SG-American SF-Duncan-Foreign C-6th man Ginobili. Well, at least that's a textbook Spurs lineup for success.

This isn't a thread complaining about losses or saying fans are overreacting, I'm just asking if this season is being taken for granted. 5 years from now, will we see this as 'That season after 6' or what it should be, 'One of the last seasons we saw the Big 3 play.'

It is being taken for granted which is unfortunate because it does overshadow the appreciation of what has been achieved, not only over the last couple of decades, but the renaissance of success that the team has experienced over the last couple of years.

That being said, this is what happens with truly great teams and players that play at a high level consistently. The criteria for success becomes winning it all and anything short of that is a failure. Think of it like a Tony Romo vs Peyton Manning situation. If Romo and the Cowboys get to a Superbowl that would be a successful season (maybe I should have said the playoffs). In contrast even though Manning is in the Superbowl, anything short of taking home to trophy is going to be considered a failure on his part due to the regular season success he has had throughout his career.

Its unfortunate, but when the metric for success becomes championship or bust, everything before the championship run gets neglected. That being said, even though I can't catch all the Spurs games, I do appreciate the ones I can watch since this is the swan song of one of the best trios in pro-sports history.

People have been taking this team for granted for YEARS.

They'll only appreciate it when the Big Three are gone, which is a shame. I think you appreciate MORE what you can appreciate while it's happening.

This is the very last chance we will ever get a shot at a chip, another HoF like TD isn't coming through that door anytime soon. I do appreciate ever game the spurs play but I am disappointed knowing that this is the last chance and many seems to not be taking that seriously. If Spurs don't get it this year it's over. Posters that call other posters spoiled because they are disappointed are also spoiled because they think Spurs can just turn it on later like its a switch and that there is nothing to be concerned about.

After TD hangs up and this team blows up losses will be much more acceptable as all our expectations will be lowered. I have been following the Spurs since the 1990 season so I know what it's like not to expect much but be happy with what they can do.

I suspect the toxic residue of +5 pt and 28 seconds left is lingering deeply more than the Spurs want to admit. This regular season is anti-climatic after last June.

It's because a lot of the ol' sports who want the Spurs to fail point out the negatives about the team that fans often view it 100x more than anything. Not to mention, when you see other teams ballin' like the Pacers, the Blazers & The Thunder, I'm sure spurs fans wanna see the Spurs ballin' like that. It's just simply wanting your team to show how great they and to not get abused by teams that we believe are not better than the Spurs.

I hate these new age spur fans which I will classify as anyone born after 1990. They are the ones who take it for granted because they never had to endure the 90's and constantly losing to the Jazz,Rockets,Warriors,Blazers,Suns in the playoffs. I felt after the spurs won the third le in '05 that anything after that would be gravy because its hard as to win 3 or more in this league. After the spurs went down in '08 I didn't think that they would ever get back to the finals due to Tim and Manu being old and also the way the team was constructed so I just enjoyed watching them play. My home team the bobcats have been ty for years and its because of that I don't take 50 win seasons for granted. Loses don't bother me not because I think the spurs are going to flip a switch but because I know with the way things are the spurs are underdogs to win it all. 6 will always suck but I got over it after a week during the summertime but unfortunately it has destroyed this forum because every loss is now magnified because of it. After every loss you will have these new age spur fans scream Manu is garbage, Tony is garbage it gets rather lame after a period of time.

I would agree except Spurs have lost every single big game this season.

You can't really call it a great season if your team loses every single big game.

The losses are bad and discouraging but tbh I'm just sick of hearing about our losing record against elite teams every time we play on national tv. Its annoying as . As if they keep trying to discredit the Spurs.

    this.

This has also been the ultimate hangover season. It's amazing we're competing and doing so well considering the collapse of 6, but I don't know if that says more about the Spurs or how terrible a lot of teams in the NBA are. I guess we'll find this out by the end of the season.

What makes this hangover even worse though is we are waiting on a signature victory, an Excedrin Migraine type game to alleviate the hangover, and sadly I don't think we've had a definitive victory yet. I'm sure people will point out a few games but I haven't seen us lay the hammer on any contenders. That is a cause of concern. It's possible we are going to stay in this daze until the playoffs when we can emerge and finally get it going, but until then we'll see us continue to beat ty teams and lose to top tier teams.

You laugh now but you won't be laughing in 3 years when Durant pulls a Lebron and leaves your town.
