I wouldn't place Tony and Kobe on the same level either but you get the point.
I just don't buy it though... CP3 has had talent around him (Ariza/T. Chandler/D.West in NO, Griffin/Red /Crawford in LA)... he just hasn't taken that next step yet... he's still young and it might come, but it hasn't happened yet.

He's usually the best player on his team and is easily shut down by taller SG mostly, that's why PG led teams usually struggle in the playoffs. Parker has been lucky with Duncan/Manu.

And he lost to the defending champ Spurs who had the better all around cast and superior coaching. He outplayed Tony Parker the entire series too.

Ariza never played with the 2008 Hornets btw. He was part of the 2011 squad. That was a horrible team so it's not surprising they lost to defending champ Lakers. He was the best player in that series though(averaged 22/12/6). Difference is Kobe had Bynum, Gasol, Odom, and Artest along with PJax coaching while Paul had Carl Landry, Ariza, and Belinelli. Amazing that series even went six games tbh.

Vinny Del Negro. Though I will admit he sucked against the Spurs in 2012. Parker wasn't really all that impressive in that series though.

My mistake about Ariza. That was the series he deferred to Pargo in the closing moments, IIRC. That was a solid NO team though, IMO.

He got shut down by Danny Green, pretty much. I like CP3 overall, and I think he has much bigger innate talent than Parker, but I just think he hasn't been all he can be, especially in the playoffs.

BTW, we'll see how Doc Rivers does, but IIRC, Vinny had a better record with the Clippers at this point last season...

Basketball is a tall mans game. PG will never lead a team to a ring without heavy heavy help.

Look at Nash, Possible best passer/shooter player ever. Magic was probably the size of sf. Kidd/Payton/stockton.

Compared to who though? It's not like Parker is a beast in the post-season either. In fact, Tony's probably one of worst playoff performers of his generation. He's incredibly fortunate to have played next to Duncan in his prime.

Well, you brought Lebron and Kobe into this convo... I'm also going to go ahead and disagree with "worst playoff performer of his generation"... he might not have been consistent from series to series, but you don't get a Finals MVP being terrible.

He also was a major part of reaching the Finals last season. Sure, Timmy turning back the clock was another major part, but you can't take away from Tony the solid work he did through the playoffs.

It was a mirage last year, based on a fluke undefeated month and a gimmicky turnover-reliant defensive system that was only ever going to work in the regular season.... bad coaches like Vinny can fluke out lots of wins in the regular season with isoball, but it inevitably gets exposed in the playoffs....

I'll take a slightly-worse record now when it comes with actual plays and a system being run on offense, the strong-side defensive system, and the improvements that Blake and even DeContract have made, tbh.... we need at least one decent backup big, more effort on the boards, and some consistency on defense to make noise in the playoffs this year, though....

maybe it's just me, but every time duncan gets going and starts killing bosh at will in the paint, he doesn't get the ball anymore in the 2nd half. wtf. if they send a double, i'm sure he has the iq to kick it back out to the open shooter. duncan gets going and they just stop passing him the ball.

I'll give you that I haven't watched the Clippers as much this season as last season. I'll certainly catch up with them once the playoffs roll around. I still think Doc is an overrated coach, but he now has a solid, young roster to work with, so he definitely has a shot to prove me wrong.

Argh Allen is a it sucks the spurs lost to him. I will always fondly remember Bowen making this guy cry like a in the '05 playoffs.
