It's quintessential Apple. The 'innovation' is almost entirely cosmetic in their cooling system arrangement and it makes the hardware incompatible to a large degree.

    $3k barebones

    http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/01...-2013-mac-pro/

Sure, you could build an i7-4930K machine that would have a faster CPU and be cheaper than the $2999 quad-core Mac Pro, but it would be impossible to build a Xeon E5 v2-based machine for less than Apple sells it with these FirePro GPUs and PCIe SSDs. Numerous PC sites have already confirmed exactly that.

yeah, I know, that's what I said that.

The Mac Pro is not worth the money, but the design is really stellar. One thing Apple does that most companies don't do, is to make the fit and finish look great not just on the outside but also on the inside.

Yeah, I'm a fan of their products, I just can't justify spending that kind of money. I'm still hunting for that elusive "great deal" on a used or refurb Macbook Air.
