I'm sure Bronko Nagursky would find a spot on that list
...power back. He's not your typical bruiser, he's got good speed and some wiggle. But he's a power back at only 215.
I'm going to rank the power backs. Those in the game to wear down a defense, move the chains.
1.Marion Mottley....he was a 240 pounder when d linemen were 230.
2.Jim Brown......he was "da man" but did a lot of his damage with his speed, not so with Mottley.
3.Earl Campbell....a monstrosity!
4.Mack "The Truck" Lee Hill....had to be seen to be believed. Bi polar?
5.Marshawn Lynch....keep in mind he is doing his thang against the best athletes to ever play defense.
6.John Riggins...yep, the Deisel!
7.Larry Csonka....looked for people to hit.
8.Cookie Gilchrist....a 250 pounder in the early 60's, the first great AFL rusher
9.Jim Nance...a former NCAA wrestler
10.Jerome Bettis....he'd be higher but he relied too much on his speed.
Marion Mottley

I'm sure Bronko Nagursky would find a spot on that list
When I think of Okoye I think of two things, Tecmo Bowl, and him getting knocked out cold by A er.
When he teamed up with Red "The Galloping Ghost" Grange with the Bears what a thunder n' lightnin' duo that was.
I thought about him but couldn't ignore the level of compe ion way back then. Guys 160 pounds.
Christine "The Nigerian Nigthmare" Okoye who ran the 200m and threw the discus while at Azusa Pacific.
One off the fastest big backs.
how about 11-20?
11.Jim Taylor...if not for Jim Brown he would have ruled that era
12.Bronko Nagurski....a brawler who was a pro rassler in the off season
13.Christian Okoye....a track star in college
14.Billy Joe...a 250 pound mauler with the Broncos, won rookie of the year in the old AFL.
15.Pete Johnson....never left Ohio, Ohio State/Bengals
16."Ironhead" Heyward....I wonder how many concussions this guy had in his career?
17.John Henry Johnson....mean and nasty, a HOFer
18.Mike Alstott....a bull
19.Boobie Clarke...Boobie came just before Icky..ha~
20.Sam "Bam" Cunningham (his older brother)...he is still the all time rushing leader for the Pats#####
##### story goes...
USC played Alabama back before the SEC allowed the Afro American athlete. The coach for Alabama at that time was the great Bear Bryant. After watching Cunningham run over around and thru his Crimson Tide for 4 quarters he saw right then and there things had to change. His white boys were no match and he knew it. The Bear was instrumental in bringing the black athlete to those southern schools other than the HBCU obviously.

You mean guys actually bouncing off him , like in...BOUNCING..off him? , he was knocking guys 10 feet in the air, hahaha!!!!!
Then theres Bo Jackson who you could run 99 yards turn around run back to his one and run another 99 yards then turn him around and run........

Now we see high school teams with 300 pounders.
Iron Head was definitely a battering ram--I remember watching him bust his way through DLs as a Saint. That was the years of Ricky Jackson, no?
Yes he was, he ran reckless.
I'm not positive about Jackson and that stud linebacking gang, I think so, but...?
Anyone?
Spoken like a true Denver fan
that A er hit killed all the mystique around okoye though
I think having Lynch #5 all time is sort of a reach though
It is pretty tricky trying to group those who played in different eras. Do we go with dominance of era, all things being equal?
Lynch is known as "The Beast" at a time when we;ve never seen a more physically gifted athlete playing in the NFL. Nobody on my list played the level of athlete that Lynch is pitted against. I had to give that a lot of respect.
True but I'd be hard pressed to think of lynch as a greater power back than Csonk. I mean if you have motley and jim brown at the top you can't feed me crap about eras. Not that i find them unworthy of the top two, but id like consistency
I get that and see exactly where you're coming from. This isn't set in stone, so where would we put Lynch?
I almost had Raider Hewriit Dixon on my list, familiar with him?

I know the name but not much about him. I'm pretty familiar with most I their historical notable players but Dixon isn't among the ones I know much of. I would think Van Eeghen was the best bruiser they had. While Bo was known for his speed he was as powerful as they come as well. Marcus Allen has become famous for that Super Bowl run but he was a guy known for always getting the tough yards in short yardage situations. Marv Hubbard is another name on my list
The Raiders had a great tantum with Clem Daneils the first 1000 yd rusher for the Raiders and Dixon who was a stud between the tackles.
Van Eeghan a far more versatile back, both him and Marv Hubbard who had good power were out of Colgate, hardly a football factory.
Bo had tremendous speed and while not .."as powerful as anyone"...he had power, but it was his speed/power combo that made him special.
Marcus Allen was the total package, he could do it all. While at Lincoln High in San Diego he was a QB who also played defensive back. We all know his story at USC. One of the true greats!
The Raider back that gets ignored is Napolean Kaufman. He was a Cali State 100m champ while at Lompoc, and had some great seasons as a Raider.

For all his speed, Bo's signature run in the pros was a goal line carry
And Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali's signature punch was his knock out of Sonny Liston, and we all know it wasn't his punching power that made him great.
