I am going to wait until the book comes out before passing judgement. Hilarious to see the Fox News crowd going to town with excerpts. I have a feeling that these folks will have a lot off egg on their faces when the book comes out..

:LMAOI was put off by the way the president closed the meeting. To his closest advisers, he said, “For the record, and for those of you writing your memoirs, I am not making any decision about Israel or Iran. Joe, you be my witness.” I was offended by his su ion that any of us would ever write about such sensitive matters.
I am SOOOO offended that he thought one of us might share this later in an anecdote, like in a book of memoirs, like the thing you're currently reading. THE NERVE OF HIM TO ASSUME THAT!

lol Gates taking offense at the su ion
He's a very complex guy. He was on Jon Stewart last night. The dialogue was pretty damn good, and Gates came across very well, articulate, and made some very good points, in principle, got a lot of applause interruptions. caveat emptor. anybody who survived as long as he did, so high up, and so inside, in DC must be suspect, at least as the consummate suck up/brown-noser/sycophant.
Good read, WH. It does support the notion that he is complex and self-contradictory at times, but consistently not "of" the post the held for so long in two administrations. Although it has gotten little to no press publicity, the reviewer's quote regarding Gates' criticism of both wars is extremely interesting, to wit,
in paraphrase - we went into both wars knowing so very little about what we were getting into.
No Tears for the Real Robert Gates
Exclusive:
In Official Washington, the gap between image and reality can be wide, but there is a virtual canyon separating the mainstream’s awestruck regard for Robert Gates as a “wise man” and his record as a deceitful opportunist known to his former colleagues, like ex-CIA analyst Ray McGovern.

Why are we waiting to fire up the outrage machine on this one?
nobody's waiting. This kind of politics so deep inside the Beltway 99% of the people have no idea, and don't care.
Obama tried to extend the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Why don't people call him out on that? And no I will not argue with any of the obama drinkers about it. It's pointless. In their eyes Obama is perfect and Bush is evil. They're both war mongers and have blood on their hands. If God exists, I hope both of those monsters get his wrath during their judgment.
Lol you talk about having blood on their hands then invoke God as if his existence would somehow bring about justice.
I don't care if you "lol". They have blood on their hands and I hope they experience the wrath of God when they are judged if God exists. I am en led to my opinion and you are en led to yours. Move on and accept it.
I have the book and am reading it now. It is a slow go, however, because I am really having trouble with a lot of what he is saying and how he is saying it.
I have read lots of memoir books. But this one, so far, is as egregious an example as I have ever seen of self-serving banality and one-sided evaluations of similar behaviors over two administrations.
I have always like the man until now; I always liked his stated objection to putting anymore troops on the ground anywhere in Asia; but I am now finding out that was he says in one place is not at all what he says in another. Comes across in the book as a posturing politician more than a principled public servant. I am really disappointed in him so far.
I am going to finish the book, and if it improves my current assessment I will be happy to change my mind. I don't like having to give up respect for people.
"finding out that was he says in one place is not at all what he says in another."
his nickname at NSA was "windsock Bobby", which ever way the wind blows, he adjusts aka an unprincipled, sycophantic brown noser.
