Amarillo?

So, I'm going to Texas in 2 weeks with my girl and her sister, we're going to start in Dallas IIRC..
Any suggestions, tbh?..
They want to check out "authentic, old-style Texas", not just big cities like Dallas/Austin(all 3 of us are from big cities)..her sister was thinking of Amarillo(don't know anything about it) and mentioned San Antonio(I only know about the negative reviews from ST) as a few places to see..
We'll be there for a week..what's worth checking out?..
I don't know why she wants to go there, she just mentioned it to me..
I guess she heard it was an "old-style" Texas city, or at least thinks it is..
I've mentioned it before, but unless you have a fetish for Waffle Houses, Motel Sixes, and truck stop s, drive straight through Amarillo and don't look back.
Amarillo is pretty ghetto tbh. I lived there for a few years growing up. And what do they mean by authentic Texas? Amarillo has a load of feedlots and cattle farms but as for Cowboys they're rare nowadays. Dalhart has a decent amount of Cowboys but most of them live out in the country and outskirts of town. I mean of course you will probably see a load of wannabe white boys and girls who think they're country just because they're white and listen to cheap pop country music but they really aren't .
I agree, tbh.
Meaning something less commercialized and with less of a "big city feeling" than Dallas, tbh..
Anyways, outside of that, what's worth doing in Dallas/Houston/Austin/SA?..
Make the trip down to the RGV. If you're going to be here in two weeks, the weather will be perfect for a trip to SPI tbh.
Thanks, homie..
San Antonio - Austin
Houston - Galveston
Dallas - Fort Worth
Maybe you could try the Fredericksburg area, a load of little shops and what not that your wife would probably love. They have a rich German heritage and it shows all over their town. The main street is pretty fun to get some drinks and chill.
Obviously go to Austin. Fredericksburg is great as well. Can hit them both quite easily (about 1.45 hours from each other).
If you are going to Dallas for sure, absolutely go to the Dallas World Aquarium. It's the coolest thing in Dallas IMO..
Fredericksburg is a great idea. If you spend any time in SA, it only takes a few hours to visit Blanco and Johnson City. Those are definitely authentic old-style Texas. A week may not give you enough time, but west Texas is pretty authentic; Marfa, Alpine (my home town), Marathon, etc there are a bunch. And it's the gateway to spectacular Big Bend.

el paso but it's wayyyy the out there. corpus/austin/dallas/san antonio/houston all have that big city feel to them.
if you go to the valley make sure you know someone there....lol i would never go there alone unless i was touring the king ranch or going to padre.
fredericksburg is badass. kerrville is pretty cool if there's a festival happening. port aransas if you want to go to a beach town but don't want to drive all the out to padre. schlitterbahn is closed right now but the indoor parks in galveston and south padre island are still open.
you can go to gruene and check out the dance hall there..gruene hall... see if there are any good bands playing.
victoria actually has a night life nowand is 60kish people. it's all cattle oil and gas so i guess that's "authentic" texas. plus if you go to schroeder hall youll see real kickers doing the two step. we have the old spanish missions and too.
make sure to grab some authentic tex-mex (low key restaurants. usually best when attached to a gas station imo.) while you're here and some brisket (black's is a safe bet). drink sweet tea. eat nothing but whataburger in between.
you'll find out quickly that texas is ing massive and no way can you see the whole state in a week. i'd have it to where you can spend at least two weekends here. maybe one in a big city (austin) and one in a smaller town (fredericksburg or victria.)
texas is one of the best places in the world to live. people don't realize how nice they have it down here imo. i think you'll have a blast.

Victoria? Attended a cousins wedding in Victoria a while back, just because they got a buffalo wild wings now certainly doesn't mean it's popping. You have to grow up there to appreciate it since it's the "city" around those parts.
Like The Reckoning said There is a ton of things to do and see in Texas, but the downfall is it's very spread out. I'll mention Wimberley since no one else has, it's a very pretty small city in the hill country and is a nice visit especially during market days, and there are plenty of nice scenic drives around the area as well. honestly though you really cant go wrong visiting anything in the Hill Country area of Texas.
If you do go to Fredricksburg I highly recommend heading slightly out of town (10-15 min drive) To Enchanted Rock.
the eagleford shale has been good to victoria. the boom brought in a ton of investors.
there's a few bars now including greeks 205, shooter's and steve-a-reno's blues bar that brings in bands from austin. i grew up there and i know that there wasn't absolutely to do, but it's all changing until the boom settles.
they're even trying to develop the guadalupe into a sort of high class riverwalk area and when i was growing up you'd only go there to get bit by a water moccasin.
plus they want to see "authentic" texas. it's a small town area no doubt but it is as close to authentic as it gets.
south side SA tbh![]()
Amarillo is certainly a must-go for you guys, the city's name fits your skin so perfectly you wouldn't allow yourself to miss it imho.
Good suggestion; tbh.
Come on down to Austin; it's got a small town feel in a big city. Don't think there is anything big planned in the next couple of weeks, as it's the calm before the SXSW storm, but it's impossible to be bored in this city.
The airport and a flight to California tbh
Smartass.
