Just quoting the boss Belichick. He said their "system isn't dependent on one player", when asked about how the Colts were doing without Manning. Their team evolves based on their personnel and gameplans.
As for tanking, can you show me a link where they admitted that's what they were doing? Maybe game analysis? I'm not even saying they didn't tank, but need more proof than conspiracy theories. If you want to post a link of building 7 going down though, that will suffice.
