Saints don't need an elite WR to win a Super Bowl.
And compare how much bigger Smith was after his 2004 season ending surgery. Huge difference. Plus, alot more roid rage incidents.
He was a skinny punt returner when he entered the league in 2001.
Stupid comment. Steve Smith is not and has never been injury-proned nor has he ever taken PED's. He's still better than any WR NO will ever have in their life. He didn't need a system to win the triple crown, something a NO receiver will never achieve.

2012
Smith: 73 catches/1174 yards/4 touchdowns
Colston: 83 catches/ 1154 yards/10 touchdowns
Not seeing how Smith was "boatloads" better
Why didn't you post the 2011 statswhen Colston was supposedly in his prime
Ask anyone on the streets who's better between Smith and Colston and let me know how many laughs you get
Colston's not elite, but he never roid-raging juiced his way into elite status either.
do you think he wasn't elite before his injury? And you have no proof of him juicing other than him getting bigger... the butthurt is flowing
He wasn't considered elite in 2003. Just very good at that time. He blew up in 2005, one year after his devastating season ending injury.
I'm not debating who was better a few years ago, I'm debating who's better right now and its clearly Colston. I only posted the 2012 stats cause smith "didnt play" the last 2 games
you do realize 03 was the year of the cardiac cats right? where people were saying moose and smith may be one of the 10 best 1-2 punch in the last 20 years?
But he still wasn't considered elite at that time. And he wasn't nearly as big as he was after his devastating season ending injury.
how is he clearly better? the saints system gets him more attempts and of course that should lead to catching... we are a running team and a well-balanced offense, not to mention smith missed an entire game that you are counting and still finished a mere 150 yards behind a player that prolly gets about 8-10 targets to him a game
Sorry bro... I must have been thinking he was elite from the 8 game winning drives Delhomme led that year, 7 of which were completed in TD passes to Smith.
Colston isn't the number one option like smith, yet he still gets better/same stats as Smith.
Colston has to deal with Graham and Sproles getting a ton of looks.
Still it's not Smith's fault he has Scam as his QB.
That didn't make him elite. He became elite in 2005 when he blew up in size and performance.
Cam's potential > where Brees is now. I bet if Rex Grossman was put in the NO system he'd have many 400 yrd games too
Steve Smith wasn't the #1 option either, bub... it was Greg Olsen.. soo next excuse?
Brees was an All-Pro QB before he came to New Orleans under Marty ball.
Cam will never be as good as a passer as Brees was in 2013. Sorry, it's not happening.
Grossman![]()
You're the first panther fan to say Smith wasn't the first option
First three years comparison (used Brees fourth year since he didn't play but one game in his rookie year) so keep in mind this is including Brees elite year in SD:
Touchdowns:
64-55 advantage: Cam
Yards: 11,229-8551 advantage: Cam
Passing Rating: 86.40-83.06 advantage: Cam
Completion %: 60%-61% advantage: Brees
It's true this year... Cam said he was gonna facilitate the ball and didn't lie.. one of 2 QB's to have 4 receivers above 550 yards (other is Peyton)
Olsen: 6.9 targets per game
Smith: 7.2 targets per game
Williams: 2.3 targets
Graham: 8.4 targets per game
Colston: 7.6 targets per game
Sproles: 6.0 targets
Cam has said himself this year he looks for Olsen first, and even in past years Cam said that he looks for Olsen/Shockey because he likes throwing to the bigger player on post/slant routes.
And Brees also played two seasons before the massive rule changes took place before 2004 facilitating the passing game. Big difference
Either way, Brees was still a Pro Bowl QB before coming to NOLA and Cam will never have a play-caller like Sean Payton. Cam's only upside is his size and athleticism. Not his elite passing skills. Get a grip.
Either way, you cannot deny that Cam is progressing and getting better each year. His only issue is throwing off his back foot occasionally. His potential is scary.. and I don't see how anyone can deny that.. especially an division rival
