Taiwanese college student Kiki Lin faces criminal charges for animal cruelty after she crammed her pet cat into a plastic jug and then uploaded two images of her shocking handiwork on Facebook earlier this week.The pet’s name is also Kiki, according to the Daily Mail.
Lin has since deleted the Facebook post with the apparently real images, which show the snow-white cat’s displeased-looking face mashed firmly up against the side of the container.
The size of the container appears to be almost exactly one cubic cat.
The student at Providence University in Taichung City initially wrote “cat in a bottle, punishment for behaving badly” on Facebook, reports the Taipei Times.
After the posting, Lin faced a good deal of pushback among Facebook users who accused her of animal abuse.
After the backlash, the English major recanted the punishment claim.
“I did not want to put my pet cats inside metal cages,” she later wrote, according to the Times. “Instead I put them inside plastic containers, so that they can be carried around with me. This way the cats can see the world through the transparent plastic.”
She said she poked holes in the jar for air.
She also added that she now realizes that this method of sightseeing is not ideal for cats.
However, notes the Mail, Lin also suggested that people who criticized her for stuffing a cat in a jar had “too much time on their hands.”
To her critics, the student later told The China Post, she had “three words for them, ha ha ha.”
Lin likely isn’t laughing much any more, though, after the local municipal government’s animal protection office caught wind of the incident and forwarded the facts of the case to criminal prosecutors.
Under Taiwanese law, the violation for which she will be charged is punishable by up to a year in prison or a fine of up to $30,000 New Taiwan dollars (about $1000).
Lin insists she is an animal lover. She has more than one cat. She says the cats sleep with her, according to the Times. They each have their own pillows and blankets.

I rescued a kitten 1 week ago from my girlfriends job, I agreed to hold the kitten at my house until the following week (2 weeks total) when the new owners would come to pick it up.
My landlord came to my door today and stated he saw the kitten on the window and was going to terminate my lease because I rescued a cat and had it on the premises for 1 week. I told the Landlord I was only catsitting the cat until the following Sunday when its new owners would come pick it up. I have a dog and paid a pet deposit but he said I can't have 2 animals in the home; he stated he wanted me out of the apartment and needed me to pay the $250 additional fee for the cat. He is giving me 2 weeks to move out! I payed rent on time every month and this is one of the few times I actually spoke with the landlord about ANYTHING (I have signed a year Lease that will end in November). Is he allowed to do that and only give me 2 weeks to move? I have done nothing wrong at all except rescue a kitten and find it a home within the week, the apartment is a excellent condition!
They do allow pets in the apartment complex, and I paid a pet fee originally to have my dog in the complex, I just held the cat for 1 week and this is the first notice he is ever given me.

I received a notice to vacate the premises in 3 days after they found out I had 2 cats and had not paid the cat deposit. I am a month to month lease. My lease says that if I am found with pets there is a 100 dollar plus 10 dollar per day fine which would have been 3 days so I figured it would have been 130 per cat. I was never offered a chance to pay this. I had already given a thirty day notice that i was moving and my lease was up in 1 week. I have now received a letter saying that I owe them the pet deposit of 250 per cat and they say that blinds were damaged for 280 dollars plus they want a sublet fee of 500 dollars because they evicted me. But the lease was paid and up in one week. They did not return my deposit of 100 either. Do I have to pay this and can they ruin my credit if I don't?
