Yep, inspired by the LB thread.

Baseballer Jackie Robinson was a stud long jumper and footballer while at UCLA (his older brother Mack an Olympic 200m silver medalist out of Oregon)

    Obviously Bo$$$ and Deion.

So just how fast was Darrell Green? While at Tex A&I he ran a 10.08 that was the 4th fastest time ran in the world that year. When Soviet Valery Borzov won the Olympic 100m in 72...10.14. When Trinidads Haseley Crawford won in 76 (beating Borzov)...10.06. Needless to say if not for football Green would have been an Olympic sprinter.

Terry Bradshaw was a stud NCAA javelin thrower while at LA Tech.

RGIII was a good NCAA 400hurdler, but he wasn't "world class".

The first of the great black speed/elusive running backs was Buddy Young all 5-4 170 pounds of him, he was an NCAA/AAU 100 yard champion. Out of Illinois.

Hercshel Walker was a 10.23 guy while at Georgia.(Deion 10.26 at FSU)

Christine "The Nigerian Nightmare" Okoye was a weightman/sprinter while at Azusa Pacific, imagine a 250 pounder running the 200m.

Niner Michael Carter still holds the high school shot put record, the oldest record still on the books.

There have been tons and tons of tracksters play in the NFL, these are just the Olympians.

    Ollie Matson 400/4x4 Rams
    Bo Roberson long jump Raiders
    Renaldo Nehemiah 110hh Niners
    Willie Gault 110hh Bears
    Milt Campbell Decathlon Browns
    Jim Thorpe Decathlon Canton Bulldogs

    sprinters

    Bob Hayes Cowboys
    Henry Carr Giants
    Johnny Jones Jets
    Jeff Demps Buc's
    Ron Brown Rams
    James Jett Raiders
    Frank Budd Eagles
    Ray Norton Niners
    Stone Johnson Chiefs
    Sam Graddy Broncos
    Larry Burton Saints
    Gerald Tinker Falcons
    Michael Bates Seahawks

    Basketballers

    Jimmy Graham Saints
    Antonio Gates Chargers
    Tony Gonzalez Chiefs
    RC Owens Idaho State
    Randy Moss Vikings
    Terrell Owens Niners

    Wrestlers

    Jim Nance Pats
    Lorenzo Neal Saints

Those who went into pro rasslin'

Ernie Ladd Chargers (actually a bigger name in this biz)***
    Leo "Lion" Nomellini Niners***
    Bronko Nagurski Bears***
    Goldberg Falcons
    the Brusier Packers
    Junkyard Dog Packers
    Wahoo McDaneils Jets***
    JBL Raiders
    Fritz Von Erich Oilers

    *** during the off season

$$$ Bo was a decathlete while in HS in Alabama, he was so far superior to the compe ion that he never had to run the 1500 the last event, he already had won the meet. State champ!

Herschel ended up on the US bobsled team IIRC. Last time I heard his name wasn't too long ago when he was trying to launch an MMA career while pushing 50. Don't know how that turned out but the article included a pic and the guy still looked like a of an athlete.

    That's right bobsledder.

I think he won a couple MMA fights, but do doubt he could hang with any of the elite fighters.

He was the perfect blend of size with speed, he is the all time leading rusher in pro football history, his final USFL season he had over 3000 combined yards, that is amazing!

I do think his 1000 pushups/situps story is true.

He did beat Bo Jackson in a heat of the SEC indoor 60 back in the day

Dave Logan, WR for the "Kardiac Kids" Browns (now the Broncos play-by-play man) was drafted in the NFL (Browns), NBA (Kansas City Kings) and MLB (Reds, IIRC.)

Sam Clancy, DE for the Browns in the '80s, was a very good big man for the University of Pittsburgh in the early '80s. His son played basketball for USC in the early 2000's.

Good one, I do remember that...now.

Speaking of the Browns, Jim Brown was a great lacrosse player.

When the great Gale Sayers was in high school he led the nation in the long jump at 24-11. His older brother Roger was a world class sprinter, one of the few to beat Bob Hayes.

HOFer (why) Lynn Swann was a Cali state long jump champ, went to the same high school as Tom Brady, Serra.

Marino and Elway, while never two sport pros, were both drafted by the KC Royals out of high school. That's no guarantee they would have been anything at the pro level (a guy from my high school supposedly turned down a few football scholarships for a similar draft spot, washed out in about 18 months). Elway certainly had the all around athleticism to do it. And watching Marino's insanely fast release I could buy that he had at least the hand speed to be a big league hitter.

I have no doubts Elway could have done other things, he was an athlete. I don't see that with Marino, He was a QB not the athlete.

Let me slow it down for ya little guy.

Over there nobody cares about that sort of thing and these were working girls, that's how they made their living, if not for young dumb military personal their lives would have been ed up.

Dude, how about making some attempt to know about what you're "trying" to talk about, ok stupid?

I agree Marino might be a stretch. He certainly would have been running the bases. Probably no potential all star, but he had a big frame, good reflexes. I'm sure there are journeyman first basemen who made a career out of less. He made the right pick with football obviously.

Hard to believe he was as successful as he was, the guy was a sitting duck back there but still made it work. Marino running the bases, hmmmm?
