Bo Jackson ran an amazing time, a sub 4.20. Yet he was just a 10.33 100m guy he wasn't all that at the NCAA 60, losing to many with Hercshel Walker being among them.
Deion Sanders also ran a sub4.20, he was a 10.26 guy at FSU and did...0.
Chris Johnson was a 4.24 guy, but he's not as fast as Jamaal Charles a 10.18 guy while at Texas.
Jerry Rice ran a sluggish 40, but who ran him down?
Rod Jones (Bengals CB) was a stud 400m guy while at SMU, he spotted Bo a solid two yards, and....ran his ass down. Bo the far faster 40.
I don't put too much into the football 40 other than for QB's, there it really does matter. Fast guys are fast guys not much difference between a 4.25=4.4. Huge difference between a 4.5 QB and a 4.9 one.

a 40 yard sprint is more relevant than a 100m run. how often is a player running for anything further than 30-40 yards on a given play anyway?
This is how it works....
The key to running fast is....speed endurance. That's what seperates the great sprinters, that's what Usian Bolt has in abundance, he started off as a 400/200 guy. While others are fading after 70 he is maintaining a higher % of his max velocity. So those college guys with 100m experience will be faster longer than just some cat who has 40 ability. His speed will be short lived not so with a legit sprinter. A guy who spent years running the sprints. Darrel Green a great example of this.
