Marino and Elway, while never two sport pros, were both drafted by the KC Royals out of high school. That's no guarantee they would have been anything at the pro level (a guy from my high school supposedly turned down a few football scholarships for a similar draft spot, washed out in about 18 months). Elway certainly had the all around athleticism to do it. And watching Marino's insanely fast release I could buy that he had at least the hand speed to be a big league hitter.

Plenty of college football players get drafted by baseball teams, some even given minor league contracts.

Ricky Williams was one, iirc. Seems to me he got paid and gave back his scholarship his senior year.

Off the top of my head, Texas Tech has two baseball guys right now in WR Bradley Marquez and QB Patrick Mahomes.
