Ravens running back Ray Rice was arrested over the weekend after an alleged physical altercation involving his fiancee at a casino in Atlantic City, according to his attorneys.

Rice’s attorney Andrew Alperstein confirmed Rice was charged and released after what he described as allegations of a “very minor physical altercation” with a woman he identified as Rice's fiancee at Revel Casino on the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

Rice, 27, was released on his own recognizance, Alperstein said.

According to Ravens director of public relations Chad Steele: "We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancee. We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained."

The Revel casino security department declined to comment when reached earlier Sunday. Atlantic City police have not returned calls about the incident.

Michael Diamondstein, a Philadelphia-based attorney, has been hired to represent Rice.

“We haven’t seen any charging do ents yet,” Diamondstein said. “There was an argument that included Ray. I can’t give any specifics because we haven’t seen the do ent yet.”

“Once we’re able to go through the evidence, it should wind up to be little more than a misunderstanding,” Diamondstein said.

Since getting drafted out of Rutgers in the second round of the 2008 draft, Rice has been one of the Ravens’ most popular and productive players. A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Rice has rushed for 6,180 yards and 37 touchdowns over six NFL seasons.

However, he’s coming off his most disappointing season as a pro as he was limited to 660 rushing yards and four touchdowns this past season as the Ravens missed the playoffs for the first time since he’s been on the team.

Rice, who signed a five-year, $35 million deal with the Ravens in July 2012, has also been one of the organization’s most active players in the community. He’s been especially active in anti-bullying campaigns.

Just posted this in the Ravens thread. Deadspin is saying he uppercutted her and knocked her out cold after she spat on him.

Sad. I always thought Ray was one of the good guys. Disappointing if true.

If it makes you feel better, the police report indicated that Rice and his girl hit each other, that neither was hurt and that both were arrested and given a summons before being released. Rice's lawyer says the two went home together. So this could easily be a case where onlookers freaked out over something that was no big deal on Rice's and his fiancee's relationship.

Not really - best case, there was still an altercation between Rice and his girl which is not ok. Worst case he uppercut her and knocked her out. I thought Ray was above all of this (one of the few in pro sports).

I'm just a per diem racist on here, but can we safely assume his gf is black? This is why athletes date/marry white women. Not because the wife informs/goes public on her husband (which is bad enough), but that she drives him to that kind of behavior in the first place

Tbh I just don't get it - when you are a famous multi-millionaire athlete, how hard is it to get a 9-10 who is okay with you doing w/e the you want

while she stays home to raise the kids and suck your when you get tired of your side pussy? again, really shouldn't be hard if you're a multi millionaire athlete.

Media is already massaging this story in order to preserve Rice. He won't be "Incognito'ed" that is for certain. ESPN immediately dragged out Cossack to muddy the waters. Rice is being rehabbed tootsweet.

Ray Rice will be out of the league for some time if the report is true

And his lawyer comments acting like it was no big deal. There is no end to the lengths terrible people will go to in order to protect themselves.

    Misunderstanding

She musta misunderstood that Ray will have no problem hitting a woman.

I could care less about whether Rice is suspended since the team needed to move on anyway. But I hate the mentality that hitting a woman is inexcusable. And no, I don't support hitting women. I don't support hitting anyone. But if it is excusable to hit a man who's hit you first, then it should be the same for a woman. That's having equal rights. The fact that he potentially knocked her out shows why she was foolish for hitting him in the first place.
