Pop has lunch with the mayor, a former mayor, and the former President of the United States and this thread ensues.

His lack of judgment is becoming a trend...

A reflection of current times, IMO. Political polarization is at an all time high.

Yes it is. A lot of us are getting sick of being pushed around and are finally beginning to push back. Too little too late, unfortunately.

    A glimpse of Pop's future...

When Popovich was asked about the lunch at a local Mexican restaurant with the former president Bill Clinton, San Antonio mayor Julian Castro, Clinton Administration cabinet member Henry Cisneros and Popovich. "I was a server," Popovich joked. "Now I know what I can do when I retire."

Politically, I'm middle of the road. I was so disgusted by the Presidential choices this past election that I elected not to vote. First time in my voting life that I did that. I'm financially conservative and socially liberal for the most part. I think the government should stay out of people's personal lives as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else.

I remember Pop being strongly in favor of a "government option" for health care as if it was a no-brainer. I certainly didn't feel that way but was surprised by his enthusiasm for it. It think its easier (I could be very wrong here) to be a bleeding heart liberal when you have a lot of $$ or when you have no $$. What's difficult is when you are somewhere in between "trying to make it" and being told that you are classified as wealthy and need to pay more taxes. That's bull . The tax code needs to change.

Agree with both of you except I am a Cons utionalist, not middle of the road. I did vote AGAINST Ozero--I was not FOR R. Never again will I hold my nose and vote for another Dole/Bush/McCain/Romney just because the other choice is worse. Next time Third Party even if I am wasting my vote. If it is gonna burn, get it over with, otherwise someone stand up and fight.

I am, with a few exceptions, however, ready to vote against the in bent from now on in all the other races out of spite for the lot of them. In the end, it doesn't matter. It is a rigged game. The pendulum never swings back as far toward freedom and small gov't as it does toward oppression and the nanny state. It is the way things evolve.

We have lost a ridiculous amount of liberty just in my lifetime. A lot of it seems trivial--like taking plastic cap guns to school or riding a bike without a helmet--but quite a bit of it isn't.

    Sit and be quiet child.

You are an ignorant political noob. Oh the horror of the Tea Party. Balanced budgets, liberty, and small government so men can live freely. Make it stop!!

Far right. Lmao! The Republicans of today are yesterday's Democrats. The "middle" continues to be pushed left to the point that there is no right wing any more.

Yeah, global politics are so important to understand and we should be like the rest of the world. Riiiiiiight..... That's why the entire f'ing world is beating down the doors to come to the US and not the other way around.

If you like left wing tyranny you have the entire rest of the world to occupy. Go to it and leave the freedom-loving, self-reliant types alone. We will keep America and prosper. Now... Stop screwing up our nation and go live in Cuba!
    Excellent post. the Left.

Lol, you're wasting your vote either way. If voting made much of a difference it'd be illegal. Our choices are between jeebo vs let gays in the military or maybe who makes the better speech, but either way we get ty Reaganomics and constant wars.

Aw BS. If the General Welfare Clause meant unlimited authority there wouldn't be delineated powers. Shut up!

The most-powerful citizen in a free market, limited government nation as the USA was founded doesn't have a fraction of the power the Federal (feral) Government has. Yes, power is exercised by a very very few to trample on freedoms every day. They're called, the President, the EPA, the NSA, BATF, NYPD, City Hall, Congress, etc.

Not even the wealthiest man on the planet has that kind of power.

    Grow a Brain.
He is talking about a counter argument. You simply repeating TENTH AMENDMENT!!!! again does not invalidate what he is saying. More binary jeebo bull here.

I don't see why people claim this. They still spamming this line on Fox and AM radio?

Tea Party principles are disestablishment. They are the same principles espoused by Hoover and Harding. That was the end of our libertarian dystopia and the great depression came soon after. The Democratic party dominated the electorate for ~70 years until the GOP took over the legislature in the 1990s. The march has been inexorably right for the past 100 years.

This notion that there is no right wing when there is a whole nation of jeebo s such as yourself out there is just hilarious. You just really suck at history, Byzantium.

    Thanks Fuzzy, exactly!

When I read his reply I was like... errr...should I even reply to pile of crap? He didn't address the arguments I put forward. But that's skull, he keeps distorting everything others say, keeps trolling, seething with hate, because he would reeeeeealy like to shot this guy Pedro in the head one of this days but this bloody state keeps telling him he doesn't have the freedom to take Pedro's freedom away.

Also, in one of his last messages he gives us a glimpse of the thoughtful, sound aruments he has against the existance of the state: they won't let him ride his bike without a helmet and take plastic cap guns to school.

I thought to bring up the Civil Rights Amendment of 1965 but then I figured you would probably not view that as freedom much less as one of the greatest achievements in civil liberties in the history of the US or the world.

Agreed. James came out of left field on me like a spider monkey but our train of thought is not far off. I dont trust oany of them. Maybe one or two politicians came to dc with their heart in the right place only to get pimped out by lobbyists and be indebted for life to some corporation or big contributor wanting to push his own selfish agenda. Glorified pros ues = politicians
    This is dead on.

Hope you've not just come to this conclusion recently.
You vote for the least of the evils, if you vote at all, because that is just the way it is.
Until they reform the candidates Credentials process, that is the way it will continue to be, sadly.
If you want good candidates, then you need to abolish political science as a degree plan, and require at least two years of government service from all new graduates similar to drafting for the military.
Then we would get that melting pot of government workers as they had during the revolutionary years.
