only Oscar flicks I've seen were Wolf of Wall Street and Gravity. I liked both a lot for different reasons and hope either one is awarded, but I think 12 Years a Slave wins because it's another moment for Hollywood to pat itself on the back and circle jerk in front of millions.
If you saw it you'd agree it's worthy, bro. Incredible true story. It's not like they're shamelessly trying to cash in on a hot-button issue (i.e. Brokeback)

oh right, its not because it's the best movie this year, which you'd have no ing idea if it is or not since you didn't see it.
I doubt it's an accomplishment like Wall Street or Gravity, but I'm sure it's a fine film, it's just the typical Oscar bait. Oscars rarely award the best films of the year. Last time they got it right, IIRC, was hooking up No Country for Old Man, even though There Will be Blood would have been a worthy winner as well. The Departed was basically a lifetime achievement award to Scorsese for dropping the ball so many times on his films.

Dallas Buyer's Club destroys Gravity, not in visuals but in overall story and acting.

only saw Gravity and I refuse to believe that none of those other movies were better than it tbh and I'm usually a big Cuaron fan.

I definitely want to see it, I'm sure it's a good movie. I like Fassbender and need to catch up on the other Fass/McQueen films. You know that Hollywood can't resist the chance to act holier than thou or make a statement instead of rewarding the best film.

I heard it was very well directed, I need to catch that one as well. Not shocked that the story was handled very well. I really dug Gravity, not just for its visuals but the whole package.

There is absolutely nothing typical about 12 Years a Slave.

I thought Her was entertaining and interesting, but ultimately a little too weird and farfetched to get fully invested in.

Obviously it was a hipster wet dream tho.
