Seeing as the Spurs were one free throw away from the 2013 championship, they better be top in the NBA now.
Even though the "He can't make free throws? He's a Spurs player" joke still seems to be around on spurstalk (why?), I can remember when that joke was not a joke and a reality of our ty free throw shooting situation that lingered for years.
Seeing as the Spurs were one free throw away from the 2013 championship, they better be top in the NBA now.
Yeah but we still don't get to the line for .
We're 3rd worst in the league in FTAs. . .and only 16 from dead last. They played one less game than us too.
We're also fifth worst in makes. So regardless of %, we still aren't really scoring from the FT line.
The Thunder still have as many MAKES as we have ATTEMPTS. It's disgusting.
I miss the old way of the Spurs. Miss a ton of free throws. Scoring drought or two in the third or early 4th quarter.
Strong defense and rebounding.
Getting stops.
Winning by 6 scoring 94 points.
We're gimmicky, lame and ty by comparison with the old days.
'03 Spurs wouldn't lose 15 games with today's compe ion.
I thought about this the other night, GOD I miss those days.
What are spurs FTAs per game, though?
One of my biggest complaints has always been spurs FTAs being lower than the compe ion.
today's spurs rarely foul. if they get beat, they'll give up the layup.
People used to get so butthurt when their awful teams would only eke out 86 or 87 points and we had 93.
"They're so boring! They don't dunk on people and they don't even score 100 points!"
The thing is the Spurs would go through droughts of whole quarters like you said and still win because their D would win the game! They would miss a ton of shots but get stops! Their O was their D at times, miss those days.
they changed the defensive rules after that season. Most of the players on that team would foul out by the half now.
Indeed. Also the Spurs can't play that same way because they dont have the 2003 version of sprightly in-the-prime Duncan and Bowen anymore.
I miss '07 Playoffs, too. Spurs with Bowen and Oberto in the starting lineup. Really poor free throw shooting but great defense.
It was pretty much just the Spurs that caused the reactionary swing over to a no-defense, score-a-thon league.
It was pretty much the Pistons, then the Spurs that caused the reactionary swing of anti-defense rules.
The league has been weakened by beating the anti-defense drum over and over by Stern. I want to see real fouls instead of the phantom foul BS over the last 5+ years. It's disgusting to see one player escorted the line repeatedly.
Would have been useful in the Finals last year, when ONE FREE THROW WOULD HAVE SEALED IT, DON'T YOU THINK?
Useless now.
