The Eagles and Jason Peters agreed to a 4 year, 40 million dollar extension. Hopefully this means we can resign Veldheer to something like 7 mil a year

i highly doubt that, Peters is old, Veld isn't.

Veldheer is also coming off a down season where he tore a triceps in camp, and Peters just made a pro bowl

obviously it's happening what was expected, raiders overpaying for average players (maybe above average) coming from down years instead of using the leverage when the timing is right..

Report came out that there is no Veldheer deal imminent and the figures are false. I posted this in the raiders thread. By not resigning Houston to a monster contract they are showing they will be patient. They could have franchised Veldheer for the same money in the falsely reported deal anyway

i see, so that's still that report.. I'll keep my lil laughs until the situation is resolved then, but it still doesn't look good, i think you agree with that. Not that signing Veld to that contract is that terrible anyway, just not the way a rebuilding team should do his work imho

i think resigning your left tackle is a good way to start. building through the trenches IS the best way to go...

if we didn't resign him, it would have been a disaster, as we don't have a good alternate left tackle, and the other free agents like Albert or Monroe would be equally expensive. so we'd have yet another need to draft. keep Veldheer. its not like we have an expensive roster right now... we probably aren't going to have a big money quarterback for at least 4 years, since if we do draft one, his rookie deal will last that long.

why would i agree it doesn't look good? veldheer has already stated he wants to stay with the raiders and the raiders have shown great interest in retaining him unlike Lamarr Houston

if he wants to stay, then allow the market to set the pricetag. It's entirely possible that someone does, but i have a hard time believing someone would pay that much for a barely above average left tackle.

i take back what i said, the last reports seem to show that they are indeed letting the market make the price. Will see what comes out of it.
