It seems much smoother when Ginobili gets subbed out with Patty on the court running the offense. It will work in the playoffs, because im afraid of ginobili's turnovers.

Mills seems more confident running a bit of the offense, than just passing it at half court and acting like an sg. Evidence of this is the Patty/TP combination that hardly ever works. The offense just crumbles and patty doesnt get any shots off.

Patty Mills cannot run an offense. Seriously, just stop it. Mills is a shooter, not a creator. He may have high assist numbers every now and then but that's is part of the Spurs system.

Ever since the month of February when Patty pretty much played starting point guard minutes, Patty's played better with the ball in his hands than with Manu running the offense. He really has two options when he runs the offense. One: He creates a shot for himself, and two: he passes it off and lets Pop's system play itself out.

Our offense pretty much requires at least one of Ginobili or Parker to remain on the floor at all times (not counting garbage time). In the playoffs it will be either Ginobili or Parker on the floor commanding the offense.

Parker needs to stop the hero ball and let the game come to him.. Looks atrocious in some stints.. If your shots are not going down do the other stuff..

lol... Parker has had some solid games this month since coming back from his vacation, tonight was just not a good night for him.

Patty is not a facilitator, Manu gets the ball, Mills runs to the top of the key, a big runs out to set a screen, defender runs under the screen and Mills pops for a 3. That's what we see now and what we will expect come the playoffs

I don't think Patty'd be able to 'run the offense', but he doesn't need Manu on the floor in order to be effective. Pop and his system 'runs the offense'. In other words, the role of the play-making, ball-dominant, point guard is redundant with the Spurs.

    +/-
    Patty +16
    Manu +8

An aggressive Patty that's making shots is great help though... takes the focus away from Gino so he can operate easier... something we couldn't do with Neal when the playoffs got harder last season...

Just having the 3 weapons off the bench + Diaw is a massive luxury and will give teams fits in the playoffs. Seriously, who are you going to leave open? This offense is terrifying.

Of course he wouldn't he wasn't nearly as good as he is now. Plus he was injured not to mention Neal, Joseph and De Colo were ahead of him.

Plus when Splitter is with the second unit, there is the additional P&R threat between him and Manu.

When Patty is in the game and is dictating the offense, the Spurs run a quick hitter double screen at the top of the three point line. It's very effective because it frees Patty to either:

1.) Shoot a three (which he does well)
2.) Use his speed and takes an angle for a drive to the basket
3.) Takes a pull up midrange J which he's shooting well

or (if he's hit shots in the game already -- which makes other teams have to honor his shot)

4.) Pass to a cutting big (usually the big that does the first screen)
5.) Pass to an open shooter on either elbow

Eight other teams run a similar play with some slight variation. I saw the Blazers run it with Wesley Matthews and Lillard tonight.

I trust Ginobili to make plays because he is a playmaker. I trust Patty Mills to take the ball up the court or create a shot because Mills can do exactly that; two different types of players. Come playoffs time, the only time we will see Patty Mills get minutes is if either Manu or Parker is playing like doo doo, or the Spurs are either blowing the other team out or getting blown out. Knowing Pop, he won't play Patty Mills unless he makes like three 3-pointers within a span of 2 minutes.

Didn't realize it, but it came out during the last few weeks. Patty had a staph infection in his foot during the Finals and was unavailable.

Our excellent bench, from 6-14, could be a top half playoff team in the East.

I think Patty will get more minutes than you think. He's earned it. Pop will go deeper/longer into his playoff rotation, because quite frankly, the team is much better than last year. I appreciate what Gary Neal did for the team, but Marco Belinelli is much better. Patty's development and inclusion in the regular season rotation has been a bonus find this season. This, along with Belinelli's smooth transition to the team, have exceeded expectations. With Patty and Marco, basically replacing Neal, the Spurs doubled their shooters, and added guys with handles and better decision making with the ball. I can't wait for the playoffs to start!

Tony needs to keep doing what he's doing. If Tony isn't attacking the game becomes exponentially more difficult. Some nights he will struggle but it's important that he force the defense to respect his scoring ability. Just as good three point shooting opens up the paint, Ton'y drives into the paint for layups and short jumpers opens up the three point shooters. It's good when he's on, but even if he's not, he cannot stop attacking and trying to get his shot. I'd bet Pop tells him to take at least x number of shots.

Of all the combinations of possibilities in all the league with all the players, the Spurs have the best results. I'm not saying they are perfect, but it's almost guaranteed that any comments made here regarding what the Spurs should do are short sighted and not worthy of implementation.
