the plane would've sent out distress signals either way, unless there was a bomb inside the plane which blew it up instantly so the crew had no time to let out any signals. But, even in that case, how would you explain that no fragments of the plane has been found?

Not to say that the US radars/satellites have always been keeping a close eye on the s' military forces including all their missile launchers & air bases, and if the s had launched a ballistic missile those South Eastern Asian countries would've all drenched their pants before the missile hit the plane tbh.

Early in the flight the aircraft, which was cruising at al ude on autopilot, quickly lost cabin pressure. All on board were incapacitated due to hypoxia — a lack of oxygen. The aircraft failed to make the westward turn toward Dallas over north Florida. It continued flying over the southern and midwestern United States for almost four hours and 1,500 miles (2,400 km). The plane ran out of fuel and crashed into a field near Aberdeen, South Dakota after an uncontrolled descent.

After they lost contact with it, a couple of military fighter flights got a visual on it, as it continued to fly until it ran out of fuel.

They need to be looking along the line of a circle with a rough radius dictated by how much fuel the Malyasian flight would have had when it lost contact.

Since they know how long the plane had power, they can guess its flight time, which was probably dictated by the amount of fuel on board.

Take a line with the last known speed and direction (i.e. velocity) that has as its starting point the last known location, contains the destination, and ends at about the point where it would run out of fuel. Start there, then simply follow a circle around based on that rough calculation.

My 2 cents. Total guess on my part. Interesting to theorize about at this point, though I have little doubt this will, or has already, created a ed conspiracy theory somewhere.

Heard an interesting bit about how the planes are designed last night that might have an answer.

My memory of what they were talking about from one of the aviation experts:
When the planes get failures, the planes are designed to keep power going to the controls as a priority, meaning if there is not enough power to run all the systems, the plane is designed to mechanically prioritize where the power goes.

I would guess, based on that bit, that the transponder is not a high-priority when it comes to that "pecking order" since things needed to actually keep the plane in flight would probably be higher.

Losing power to the transponder would be consistent with a mechanical failure scenario, based on that.
