Well, it won't be too bad, a 6 year max contract for a janitor only pays like $100k.

Committed salary. We don't know what the cap will be yet, but as of now, the Spurs only have $8.5 Million committed in 2015. Their cap room would essentially be whatever the cap ends up being minus $8.5 Million.

It's true now but won't stay that way. Not even this summer. They would have to resign or replace Boris, Diaw, Baynes, Bonner in a few months. Even if they sign them or other people for cheap, it will take at least 10 millions to do so, maybe even 20 if they have to replace them with good free agents. That would take the commitment up to 20 million range at least which is still pretty good. Then you would have to extend Kawhi before the end of this year and take a good bite out of the cap space. If Kawhi plays these playoffs like last year's finals or better, then his salary would a be a lock for 8 figures. Either way, it would be something around 35-50 (if it's for 4 years) or 48-60 (if it's for 5). So the commitment goes up to 30M or more. Then it comes the hard part. What happens to the Big three decides pretty much everything else. If Timmy and Manu retire then it's easier: Does Tony stay?

    Tony Parker $12,500,000 $12,500,000 N/A N/A N/A N/A $25,000,000
    Tim Duncan $10,361,446 $10,000,000 N/A N/A N/A N/A $20,361,446
    Tiago Splitter $10,000,000 $9,250,000 $8,500,000 $8,250,000 N/A N/A $36,000,000
    Manu Ginobili $7,500,000 $7,000,000 N/A N/A N/A N/A $14,500,000
    Boris Diaw $4,702,500 N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A $4,702,500
    Matt Bonner $3,945,000 N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A $3,945,000
    Danny Green $3,762,500 $4,025,000 N/A N/A N/A N/A $7,787,500
    Marco Belinelli $2,750,000 $2,873,750 N/A N/A N/A N/A $5,623,750
    Kawhi Leonard $1,887,840 $2,894,059 $4,045,894 N/A N/A N/A $4,781,899
    Jeff Ayers $1,750,000 $1,828,750 N/A N/A N/A N/A $3,578,750
    Daye (instead of Nando De Colo) $1,463,000 $1,828,750 N/A N/A N/A N/A $1,463,000
    Patrick Mills $1,133,950 N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A $1,133,950
    Cory Joseph $1,120,920 $2,023,261 $3,034,891 N/A N/A N/A $3,144,181
    Aron Baynes $788,872 $1,115,243 N/A N/A N/A N/A $788,872
    Shannon Brown $52,017 N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A $52,017
    Othyus Jeffers * $52,017 N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A $52,017
    Total salaries: $63,770,062 $52,394,820 $8,500,000 $8,250,000 $0 $0 $132,914,882
    Total w/o options $63,770,062 $42,394,820 $8,500,000 $8,250,000 $0 $0

Yeah, the Spurs would be lucky to have $15 Million available after re-signing their core guys. They'd have room to signed one premier player or maybe two good ones. That's a big reason why a trade this off-season may make a lot of sense.

A trade to clear cap room or one to acquire a star (instead of trying to sign one in 2015)?

A trade is out of the question unless you're referring to Tony Parker or Tiago Splitter. Neither of those two players are going anywhere. Outside of those two, the Spurs don't have any tradeable assets or long term deals. If the Spurs wanted cap space, they just don't have to sign some of their core players.

Thanks, the 2015 part confused me, I thought 2015 meant next season and I knew there where a bunch off contracts in course, but i guess 2015 means "2015/2016 season".

No big name will sign here anyway. They'll come up with some self righteous reason why they didnt, even though they love Pop, we're a great franchise, blah blah blah.

Actually, I think Bosh would work very well in our system, and he's a native Texan. But, somehow, I just don't see it happening.

We resign Boris and Patty (if he can be got at a reasonable price) this year. Then extend Leonard. After next year, I'd hope we resign Tony, Green, and Marco. Bring over Davis. Then, as previous noted, it's up to Manu and Timmy to see if they want to continue.

It would be brilliant...if the Spurs were a "destination" draw for free agents. But unfortunately you're not getting max-type players to come here voluntarily. Get ready for Splitter to be your best big and a 34yr old Parker to be your franchise player. Parker will eat up $12-14M of that cap space and Kawhi will command $10-12M. My guess is they'll target a big fish but end up with a couple complimentary players.

Nah, Bonner will be given a max contract to do what he does best: talk about sandwiches and recommend good sandwich places the guys can go to before and after games. I think Pop will pay more than 100k for that.
