He is tied for 6th in defensive rating with 107. Thats the same as Parker's who has the worst D rating on the Spurs. D12 is far far away their best defender with a D rating of 100
You know full well DRtg is misleading for perimeter defenders.

Individual DRtg is a horrible measure of someone's defensive abilities. Bowen was consistently in the bottom 5 of Spurs' teams when it came to DRtg...was he one of our worst defenders? Of course not. He just never got many steals or blocks.

All DRtg does is look at defensive rebounds/steals/blocks and then factors in the overall team's defensive rating. I agree that Howard is their best defender, but individual defensive rating is not how you go about proving that. And regardless, when people say Beverley is their best defender, they're likely referring to him as the best perimeter defender. Howard and Beverley offer different types of defense, so it's sort of pointless to compare the two on that end.

Wow. This should be the headline on Sportscenter right now. Not all this Desean Jackson NFL garbage.

Beverly is by far Houston's best PG and defender. This ends whatever chance they had to make a run.

    Houston, we have a problem.
This.... This is a HUGE loss for H-Town. If we meet Houston, Parker will have a field day.

Huge loss, and this suddenly makes the Spurs second round series with Houston significantly easier. Lin and Harden just are not a great combo. Beverley is an elite perimeter defender and elite pain the ass for opponents. He's fun to watch and was arguably Houston's third most important piece. I'm sorry to see this happen to him and the Rockets - I want to play every team at full strength.

I don't like Russell Westbrick at all, but I felt bad for him last playoffs when Patrick Beverley did what he did when Westbrick was calling a timeout. I honestly remember wondering if Beverley learned a lesson, it seemed like a very amateurish thing to do. Then, the last time Houston played OKC he did the EXACT same thing again, and it nearly turned into a fight. I wouldn't have blamed Westbrook if he had knocked him out. That idiocy by Beverley may wind up costing him his career, or severely shortening it. SO Now Patrick Beverley knows what a torn meniscus is, the same injury he foolishly caused Westbrick. Maybe he will learn from this.

I believe there was a play earlier where Chimp did the same thing to lin or another rocket player. To use your logic would be hypocrisy. That play didn't generate any fuss.

Also, its not like Beverly intentionally tried to hurt him, he was just playing hard--Pop spoke up about it and said he didn't think it was dirty---so I really don't know what you're talking about tbh

This could have an impact on the final standings, most importantly for the Spurs.
The order of playoff spots 3-8 is even more up in the air now. If the Rockets somehow slip to 6th and OKC and the Clips are 2 and 3, I like the Spurs chances to revisit the Finals.

It's extremely unlikely that Rockets will slip to 6th. Their final standing will be either 3 or 4.

TheyCallMePro said he was by far their best defender. I understand D rating isn't perfect for non bigs. I probably shouldn't have used that for argument.

That Bowen point isn't entirely true in 4 of his 8 seasons with the Spurs he posted DRtgs of 102 or lower (that mark is similar to Danny Greens 101 this season, who is 4th on the team in that regard). The other 4 seasons he was 31 or older (3 of those he was 35 or older). In 03-04 he played 32 mpg and has an insane DRrtg of 97.

I agree that comparing Howard to Beverly is pointless as guarding PGs can offer a much tougher challenge (frequently fighting through screens and hand checking that leads to fouls) but Howard is Houston's best defender was the point I was trying to make.

I should have used Defensive Win Shares. Which he is fifth on the Rockets. The point I was making that Howard is the teams best/most important defender.

Win-shares are derivatives of ORtg and DRtg. It's a little better, but it still fails to capture good man defense.

    Somewhere, Westbrook is laughing.

I don't like either of them except Beverley's defense, in fact I hate Westbrook a lot. But I don't like what Beverley did.

Yeah, there's really no great measure of defensive ability. RAPM/xRAPM is probably the best IMO, but even that has its flaws.

Also, you could honestly argue Dwight isn't most important considering they have Asik if Dwight ever went down with injury or something. But regardless, I get what you're saying: Dwight has more of an impact defensively than Beverley.

Beverly won't need surgery. He will likely be back in the 1st round against Portland (at the moment)

Pop came out and said that it wasn't a dirty play. A dirty play is one that has malicious intent, all he did was go for the ball. WB did it a posession earlier to another rocket player and KD did it in one of the following games.

Also, it seems that the only thing the chimp will be laughing about is his role in imploding the thunder as Beverly will be coming back
