Win #64 guarantees 1st seed over okc
most important is health. Hopefully some providence shines the Spurs' way.
Next is Enrique's ego. This one is going to take Pop and the team to overcome.
Third is Manu's brainfarts.
Win #64 guarantees 1st seed over okc
Go yourself.
people are still bringing up 2012 OKC as if they still have Harden
Although the Spurs are doing great this year, it's pretty obvious that their offensive execution relies heavily on the "Popovich system" - which is spacing the floor and a lot of passing.
I know I'm going to probably get a lot of heat for saying this, but as much as it hurt to see Ginobili turn the ball over so many times in the finals last year, it wasn't entirely his fault. Because of this Popovich system, players are to run to their designated spots and be ready for the pass. If you look at the offensive sets this year compared to last, nothing has really changed except for the fact that you don't have a Gary Neal chucking shots that aren't within the offensive sets. Almost all the passes any Spurs players make is passing it to where the player will run to, not where the player is. So when the Heat forced numerous turnovers on the Spurs last year, the system essentially broke down. All the players got scared to pass in fear of turnovers and suddenly the offense was very hard to get clicking again. That's why it was so apparent that the momentum changed so much from game to game simply depending on whether they got their passing off. Now how is this related to Ginobili? It's related because while other players were scared of turnovers and decided to catch passes not while in the act of running, Ginobili threw passes to where others were running to, creating more turnovers.
In either case, the Spurs really do need a go to guy that can handle isolation plays when their passing offensive game breaks down like the Heat exploited them last year.
The offense was fine in the finals last season. If anything, we were extremely reliant on the pick and roll, which was Miami's defensive forte. I think this season we've mixed it up much more with backdoor cuts and adding more post play for Diaw and Kawhi.
Beli is also a much better ball handler and smarter player than Neal will ever be, and Bobo is really having a career year after already being very good for us last playoffs.
Once you get to the WCF/Finals, there's not easy games or matchups...
Said that earlier.
Still think a repeat Finals is in store ... unless OKC gets 100% healthy
I'm a little more confident this time around. However if OKC can stop the Spurs ball movement and force turnovers (like they did back in 2012), it'll be a short series.
Terrible shtick. losing a championship in that fashion is worse than getting swept in the first round
there is nothing worse than getting swept in the first round. that just means you flat out did not belong in the playoffs. choking in the finals certainly stings more, but its still far and away a better season than a first round mop job
OKC is the biggest threat to the Spurs, but I don't think their matchup is as favorable as it was in '12 when they had the bearded one
so you'd rather get swept and lose by 25 points each game?![]()
losing in 5 to the mavs in 2009 didn't feel like anything. 6? man we have people upstairs killing themselves over that
losing in 09 was completely expected, manu was out for the season at that point
Let's not declare them winners already. There's still refs, manic Manu, health, potential bad luck, and great teams to go through. Anything can happen.
Don't even act like the refs didn't make that happen though. Ibaka doesn't get away with double digit goaltends in a 2 game span in addition to multiple instances of 8 FTAs in 5 possessions -exactly- when the game appears to be slipping out of OKC's control without a fix being in. I mean dude, a composed, intelligent, non fouling team who's up BIG doesn't suddenly start fouling an ice cold team repeatedly.
That's the only series I've ever seen that truly seemed to be fixed to me. I don't even count that as a choke. The refs took it away with whistles.
Team is historically great. Just smashing opponents during the win streak with starters playing under 30 mpg. We're just too versatile.
~O~ doing some quality work in this thread.
if the raiders starters were playing 35 mpg in this streak, i'd be more concerned. heck we've been resting tim, green, splitter, parker, manu throughout the streak
those choking years, 2 gots are always the same fkn mutts responsible...
u know who you are, and ur fanbase knows who im talkin about
It's probably gonna end badly again, but I'm going to enjoy the ride. Our window was supposed to be nailed shut after '08 and we were supposed to be in rebuilding mode right now.
It's all gravy.
"enjoy the ride" & "It's all gravy." my sweet ass. That is insulating yourself at loss. Act like somebody, gd it.
Does anyone remember that time when the spurs 20 game winning streak ended with a WCF backdoor sweep?
Regular season wins still getting hyped by spurfan![]()
