I agree - it was a very well written, well thought out response, but it does shed light on the hypocrisy of the issue. Nothing to complain about, but it seems pretty apparent that bias exists.

lol, using racial slurs in everyday life is not as uncommon as people are making it sound, especially for an NFL player... the cooper thing was blown so far out of proportion
Especially in the NFL. It is a predominately black culture with many growing up in rough cir stances. This isn't your typical work place. The same rules don't apply. So an NFL player (white or not) saying that word is not viewed the same way. It's ironic to me that guys like Sherman will give so many excuses due to what guys "grew up surrounded by" but then turns around and throws that out the window when guys like Cooper are surrounded by the same thing in their everyday interactions with teammates.

    at that record label.

Sherman is biased. But he's clearly very intelligent for a football player. While I think he is being somewhat hypocritical, I think he is articulately addressing some major issues with society's handling of race relations.
Ya, I don't know how I came up with that. I need to copyright that before some racist honky steals it.

The N word is great. It just flies off the tongue. I hear it used like "tbh" is used here.

, this is one of the weirder moments of the off-season. What would be the 2nd weirdest? The Eagles swapping Vick for the Dirty Sanchez?

From what I've heard, you probably don't want DeSean Jackson around that many weapons.

First off I think associated with criminals < being caught saying something racist < being an actual criminal. So I agree Jackson's associations would be a terrible reason to cut him, but if they believed him to be an actual criminal (I don't think they do), then it would be worse than being racist. Mind everyone that saying the N word doesn't make someone racist, so if anything, Cooper is guilty by association with the word.

Secondly, what I think people should be allowed to be fired for and what they can realistically end up fired for can be (and usually are) divergent things. I don't think that Twitter woman should have been fired for her comments; I don't think Don Imus should have been fired for his nappy-headed hoes comment. The fact that they were doesn't mean I have to think it's right.
I have no problem with the majority of what you're saying. But the fact you think people shouldn't be fired for these 'personal' moments has nothing to do with the Eagles perspective on how to handle these situations. And based on how they reacted with DeSean (something you disagreed with), I don't see how it's not hypocritical the way they handled Cooper (something that would get most people fired - whether you agree or not).

For me, the argument that black payers say the N-word doesn't really matter, because Cooper's actions was still fined by the Eagles and he also apologized. So obviously, the Eagles organization didn't think it was OK (nor would any employer use that reasoning about black people using the word) - so that's not the point.

Also, Sherman's alleged agenda or bias is irrelevant to me in terms of talking about the Eagles. It's speculative and says nothing to the point of the Eagles' inconsistency (and if I was going that angle, a stronger argument would simply be his relationship w/ DeSean & his family from childhood, as opposed to him being black). A PETA member talking about the benefits of Vitamin A in carrots is still correct, regardless of his possible agenda. Whether or not race was a factor in the Eagles' behavior doesn't change the fact they were inconsistent and makes their reasoning for DeSean look even dumber.

I actually don't even see where you disagree with Sherman - he is saying that Cooper should've been punished the same manner as DeSean was by the Eagles. You're saying both cases (personal ones) are silly bases for reprimanding players. In both cases, the treatment should be the same - they're different sides of the same argument.

Bottom line, I'm saying the Eagles BS reason for cutting DeSean is even sillier given it is inconsistent with their actions in the past (i.e. Cooper). There's no need to justify their stance on Cooper - if you believe cutting DeSean for this reason was silly, you would think about so Cooper too. In turn, if DeSean was cut by the Eagles for this reason, you'd expect the Eagles to do the same for Cooper.

Honestly, people on both sides were way too quick to jump to conclusions about the connection between that gang article and Jackson's release. As far as I've known, Jackson's always been a cancer. I never thought Philly needed to find another reason to cut him. But I guess in this butt-hurt, PC society, folks can't help taking things out of context and misreading situations.

Not defending Cooper's actions, but he is in a work environment that not only uses the N-word regularly, but freely without any consequence. He works with men of color on a regular basis and that word is thrown around all the time. To say a guy caught saying that is a racist when he's never had an issue with any teammate of color and when he works in an environment that is the majority black is way more assumptive than a guy throwing up gang signs and taking pictures with accused murderers.

Sherman isn't for the cause of people - he's for the cause of "his" people as evidenced by the racist comment.

I realize it was an entire week ago, but the first five pages of this thread people made it sound like he was released because he put a couple of gangsta rap albums on his itunes favorite list or some but as I pointed out right in the beginning and as Chinook just pointed out again anyone who's followed this guy at all saw this coming a long while ago. Dude's been nothing but a headache for years there's multiple articles/reports on this

Obviously Jackson is a dummy but he has skills. I will say he does belong in Green Bay or Seattle someplace far away from the street thugs we see in a place like Washington DC.
