I have a Samsung Smart tv downstairs (don't ask me about specs!) and it looks better, responds faster than the Vizio with smart Sony blu-ray player in my room. What's the price difference on one of those really bigTV's (smart vs not smart)?
FkLA get this tv imo http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/UN55H6350AFXZA

couple hundred extra to s out for something you could get aftermarket for $30-100
Can you link to your model?
This is what I was talking about..
"240Hz Refresh Rate: The UN55F9000 UHD TV has a 240Hz refresh rate panel; this allows the panel to create a smoother image. The rate the TV recreates the image depends on the signal being sent to the display, e.g., an image displayed at 60fps (frames per second) is sampled 4 times and an image displayed at 24fps is sampled 10 times. The Samsung UHD is capable of playing up to UHD/24p; that's Ultra High Definition at 24fps. Since it can playback every frame rate, the UHD offers unmatched motion clarity on an 55" LED screen."
Yes, the resolution is ridiculous, but 24 frames per second when displaying at full resolution will look like . Movies will be the only exception as they are filmed at 24 FPS anyway. TV doesn't output at 4K yet, and unless FkLA plans on buying/building an enthusiast level PC with 2,000 worth of graphics cards alone, it doesn't make sense to jump onboard w/ UHD just yet. Even then, I personally could not play games at 24fps, it's a choppy mess.
"Ultra high definition at 24fps", I would assume this means it plays 4k resolution at 24fps and this limitation does not apply to 720/1080 images we see from consoles.
Correct, so I don't see the need to rush into the new tech.
I wouldn't call it a rush, these models are priced fairly well and the technology is proven.
It's proven to display at 2160p resolution, but that's about it. 4K is still a long way away from being supported as a standard resolution. TV's today all run at 60hz standard with 1080p resolution, and that's a significant drop back to 24 frames when watching UHD content.
You are not going to get all the bells and whistles at an affordable price for 4K tech for at least a couple more years. If you have disposable income, and strictly use the TV to watch movies, then it's not bad in it's current state. Gamers and sports fans should pass at least for now IMO, especially for sports fans as there isn't any live sports to watch in that resolution yet anyway.
4k TV has taken quite a leap in affordabality since the 8-10,000 dollar screens were out earlier last year. It's progressing faster in the market than the LCD TVs did last decade. I believe the 4k TVs today are also modular in design, which is that they have portable hardware box which can be replaced in the future. A very interesting design option I've seen which makes the TVs less susceptible to becoming obsolete quickly.
That being said, it's not a big leap to consider purchasing a 4k tv at current pricing instead of a 1080p one. If anything, it's a small enthusiast price.
I've had Samsung, LG, and Toshiba Smart TVs. Samsung and LG have the best pictures (not by much in my opinion though), but I prefer the Toshiba for gaming. The input lag on it was way less noticeable than the other two.
Just tried it and realized that the Chromecast can't cast the Chrome browser from a Phone/Tablet--has to be from a PC. Works great for like Netflix, Youtube, Hulu, etc though so I'll probably still keep it to avoid s ing out the money for those 'smart' features. Hopefully it supports ESPN3 and mobile Chrome soon.
Going for a Samsung Plasma for the TV. Sold on plasmas after doing a little more research on them. DJR210 what you think of this one, brah? Wish they had a 55" but I guess I could always buy a nice sound bar with some of the leftover money I was planning to use on the TV tbh.
Plasma? What sold you on a plasma?
Consensus seems to be that a plasma's picture quality is better than LED's. They seem dimmer but only because of the reasons DJR210 mentioned. The motion capture is as good as it gets too apparently.![]()
That plasma looks good, I always make my decisions based on user reviews, and they look good. Samsung has really good "pixel shift" technology, so you really don't have to worry about images being "burned in" when gaming or watching a load of sports with the sports tickers in the corner. For 700.00 bucks I might go throw that on my Best Buy card tbh.
I own a Samsung LED, and I'm in the market for a plasma. Plasma doesn't get much love anymore because LCD has taken so much of the market share it just really isn't an option for people shopping for a new TV. After spending time with both, I just prefer plasma for my games and fast moving TV.
Also, as for the brightness, LED lamps are super bright, but I never have my screen set to the highest brightness anyway. The tradeoff for the deepest blacks outside of AMOLED technology (not available in TV's yet) makes it worth it for me.
Edit: Only drawback to that TV I found was only 2 HDMI inputs.

you can get an hdmi switch off monoprice for under $20
Problem solved.
Can you tell us why they are a waste of money? I want one, but I have ChromeCast for now. It satisfied my needs.
I'm picking it up later this afternoon. Thanks for the help/suggestions. Same for everyone else.
Your chromecast was $35 and basically adds the same features a smart TV has. No need to purchase a smart TV when you can just plug your cc to the back and get the same thing.
I have a 60'' smart Plasma, this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CPD...&robot_redir=1
the only thing bad about it is it's a space heater, I almost took it back because I would have to turn the air down 5 degrees after it was on for a while. I got it for $599 and the picture quality s all over my cousins $1200 60" samsung led tbh
Was it on black friday? If not tell me where you got it from, thats 400+ less than the current amazon price.![]()
all the reviews say microcenter was running the special on the 2013 models, doubt many are left at this point
Get the all cast app. It allows you to carry a lot more and even allows you to mirror your phone to the screen
I got it at Frys price matched to micro center, found it on the slickdeals.net android app. You can set tags to send you notifications for any electronics deals you are looking for. I highly recommend it
