Brett Brown draws inspiration from Patty Mills

Article talking about how the little things like Patty Mills' towel waving makes a painful long season more enjoyable for the team. Now Brett Brown is seeing what Patty has done this season, and has taken Patty's happy-go lucky, team-first character for granted in the past.

Now this was the guy that said that Mills has no chance of being a valuable NBA player before he left to coach the Sixers. Another guy, along with robdiaz eating their own .


“I have a special interest in Patty Mills,” Brown said of San Antonio’s reserve point guard. “He started out there as a towel-swinger that never played. Then he became a towel-swinger that got in the game a little bit. Now he’s grown into the system and he’s won some games for them, and then he goes back to the bench and swings that same towel.
“They root for him. They know he rooted for them. And there’s such a strong chemistry dynamic that I’m jealous of that I want for this city and for our team.”
The small things, even waving towels, can make a painfully long season seem tolerable.

Yep, Mills is great. . .I always like the story of scrub turned NBA player. Danny Green kind of has the same background which is why I like him a lot too. Hard to dislike guys like that who weren't wanted elsewhere but work their asses off and make something of their careers while having a positive at ude the whole way.

Yeah, i knew that. That's why it would have been shocking if he said that about Patty.

Yeah Patty Mills has really come into his own this year. I think he's about as fearless a shooter as Gary Neal, but takes smarter shots. A lot quicker too, plus he's a better ball handler. Not a great passer, but not a terrible one. I'd say his defense has grown into becoming pretty adequate.

Of course, but getting there is part of the game as well. The Spurs' strength comes from their chemistry, because they aren't the most talented roster in the league.

True. It's also a recurring theme that he averages very few assists for a supposed point guard. Oh, that's because he's really not one... he's an undersized shooting guard, tbh.

Yes, the system doesn't support one player getting a lot of assists, but that doesn't excuse Patty, tbh. He's just not really much of a PG and that's okay, I guess. Manu is really the PG in the second unit, even if Patty brings the ball up the court. I'll admit that Patty has gotten better in this regard, but he's still not there (and probably never will be, tbh). It would be great if he had the height to play SG.

Arbitrary labels like point guard and shooting guard don't mean as much in the Spurs system. We have Manu to distribute the ball off the bench, we just need Patty to play his role (instant offense)
