Are they made with real red chile or the TexMex "chili gravy" stuff?

Tex Mex chili stuff. That's how I like mine.

Yea I don't like that stuff. But I just looked up their menu and everything else sounds pretty damn yummy. I'll need to check it out![]()
Gotta go with the roja...can't do the Tex-Mex thing...guess it's how it is out here in California.
Yes the red chile thing starts in west Texas and heads that way. Really hard to find it here in SA---although I have a ton of it frozen that my dad in El Paso made for me. I'm having a hard time using it because it is sooo hot, I can't take much of it.
I remember the Mexican food in LA sucking pretty bad, compared to SA.
The only really good Mexican restaurant I ever found was El Tepeyac Cafe out in East LA. Great enchiladas and they have a burrito called The Hollenbeck which is awesome because of their beans and ranchero salsa, though I prefer the machaca one to the regular pork. But otherwise, Mexican restaurants are pretty mediocre there, which is strange since LA has some great taco joints like the King Taco franchises.
The original location is pretty good. Is the one at the Medical Center comparable?
Go to the one on Austin HWY before you toot the Blanco horn, trust me it sucks big time now I go to thousand oaks cafe 4 blocks down used to be a Jims they kick Blanco Cafes cheesy ass.

Because the best places aren't found in the strip joints of North Hollywood. You have to make it into the barrios before you get to the good stuff. El Tepeyac is good but there are other places that are pretty good as well. Like El Huarachito and Guelaguetza Restaurante. Personally, the smaller places like Cactus Taqueria or El Compadre. Also, the hole-in-the-wall places are great in South Gate and Highland Park. However, you must be willing to step outside your comfort zone in order to get there.
Boyle Heights ain't barrio? Lol
I remember they had a lot of walk up burrito stands that were ok. But, then again, I haven't lived there since '89.
If you lived on the westside it's really horrible there. Everyone kept telling me about this place called o's Tacos in Culver City so I went and there was a huge line, so I figured this place must be really awesome. And then I got my tacos and they weren't even Del Taco level. More like a Taco Bell or Jack in the Crack taco that used meat instead of orange filling or whatever the that stuff is. LOL at the dumbass Westside yuppies swearing up and down to me that it was the best Mexican in LA when I was in line.
I went to the original one...........mmmmmmhmmmmmm...........and the tortillas were nice and hot.
Jacala. ...
hipster/yuppie Mexican food at best...never did get the o's Taco following...
I've never understood why so many places fail so hard at making enchiladas. It's a tortilla with cheese.
I'm partial to Pericos for combination price, atmosphere and taste.
I bet your enchilada taste great Judy ;-)
It honestly reminded me of this really horrible place I ate at in one of the nastiest parts of Tijuana way away from the tourist drag and the houses/strip clubs.
I think the one I went to was near Redondo Beach -- like I said, it was just "ok". I probably just didn't know where the good places were.
enchildas...I bet your taco is the best Maalox... ;-)
I miss my mom's enchiladas. They were the red chile ones.![]()
