That's the beauty of it all. The Lakers always acquire talent. Now whether said talent fits together chemistry wise or remains healthy are the only two questions. I remember being semi-depressed when Magic announced to the world that he had HIV and had to retire immediately. Like many of you farmers, I was playing checkers too back then. Being the great GM that the Logo was, he always put together talented, athletic Laker teams that were fun to watch. MK being the cap guru that he was (and still is), Logo used to lean on him to crunch the numbers that the boss would accept footing the bill for while simultaneously keeping us in line with contracts either expiring, or watching the financial makeup of other organizations that are not well run (to see when the time might be "ripe" to poach their star. ) Not too much longer we moved contracts to acquire Shaq and even suckered the Hornets into drafting Kobe for us. This, even though the Magic were loaded . Then not too much longer after Shaq/Kobe broke up - we acquired MVPau. The Logo is long gone, but his successor is just as respected as he was so I'm sure that some up and comer (who has outplayed their contract and their organizations are too inept to keep them - see Bin Harden for example) or some disgruntled superstar will want out of some small market because they can't win (*cough* KD *cough*). Whoever he is, whenever he is ready to leave, MK will be waiting for him at LAX with a few of LA's finest hookers to ease the transition for him.

Which team has the brighter future? Before you answer, consider Spur history before you guys were gifted Tammy.
that was then, this is now....ie, the new CBA isn't going anywhere. Clippers aren't going anywhere for you either, sorry.

Only missed the playoffs three times tbh. Might be awhile before the Lakers sniff anything outside the lottery again tbh.
You don't believe that son. Since showtime, the longest le drought we had was from '88 to '00. Since then, the NBA has expanded with extensively ty management running teams like Toronto, Grizzlies (although 8 shows they are turning the corner ), or the Hornets (Pelicans**). , the Heat didn't win their first 18 years (or so) of existence. It took a Laker to come over and turn their organization around. But, there has been an uptick in ty management throughout most of the league fiscally running NBA teams into the ground. As long as Stern (Silver) are allowing this to happen, eventually there will be more MVPau type deals. **AD expires in 2017 and might be ripe for poaching as early as 2016 - when Kobe's $25M expires. Coincidence? I think not son.

MK said You! to the new CBA by poaching CP0. LDS caused owners Stern to step in and stop it.

The new CBA is not a deterrent for successfully run organizations. Now they have to settle for Laker Food Stamps since they can't seem to stay afloat financially without it.

You're playing checkers again. There are some big time potential FAs that will likely be available at the same time his contract ends. You think if the Lakers have $25M in cap space, available FAs will turn it down?

You probably laughed at the contract we gave Kwame too. In reality, it was one of the biggest expiring contracts at the time. Grizzlies parlayed that deal into Z-bo and Fat Gasol leading to 8.

Also in the Lakers future: 2014-15 lottery, with the pick going to Phoenix.
Lakers will not be in the 2014-2015 lottery son. They are there this year because for the first time in years, we own our own 1st rounder outright.

So here's a hint: if the Lakers ever own their own 1st rounder, and they don't have a contending roster in place, they will tank haaaaaaaaaaard as . We did it in 1993 (Eddie Jones) and 2005 (Bynum). My guess is that due to The Veto!** the Lakers will have a top 3 lotto pick this year. The question is, is Embiid's back sound enough to draft or will they pick my man Exum out of Australia, or draft the most NBA ready player right now: Randle. Stay tuned son.

**When the Hornets were screwed by Stern, they were gifted the #1 overall pick, drafting AD.

Chemistry and injuries derailed us with a lineup of Shaq/Kobe/Mailman/GP and Kobe/Nash/MVPau/D12. If not for chemistry and health issues, there is no 48. If not for Stern and LDS owners, there is no Lob City eitherPERIOD.

In other words, MK is our GM. He is the same person who made the deals for Mailman and GP and of course MVPau and D12. Think chemistry and health when predicting the fate of the Lakers because the talent will be there.

exactly. Spurs consistently made the playoffs in the old system, which was heavily favored for big markets. Imagine what they can do in a climate that is more about parity.
also the CP3 deal was before the new CBA's ramifications could be felt.
like I said, this new CBA is going to make the Clippers vs Lakers rivalry much better and not so lopsided. You're still playing Loterķa, the Spurs are playing chess. Please keep up son.
