I'm in the process of scanning all of my old horse racing magazines and trombone books into pdf's so I can read them on my Kindle. Anyone know how much memory I'm going to need per mag?
    Thanks.

memory, you mean first disk space?

depends completely on the resolution DPI, 300, 600, 1200?

scan a page to disk and look at the page size.

I don't know how reliable it is, but try an OCR program that scans images to .pdf. My guess it would certainly be tedious.

Yes dammit. Disk space. I don't want to use OCR. I just want to be able to read my mags and other books on my Kindle. But I want them to look just like I was reading them in the magazine.

Do you keep these magazines in a fortress of solitude?

Because they are available on your kindle. You seriously want to scan all the pages from your magazine?

Come on CTOA I know you're better than this.
Just taking advantage of technology. I've got the HDX which has pretty impressive resolution. I'd love to see some of those old picks on it.

Why do you want to read the same magazines over and over?

I hear ya, just take about 10 shots/scans and see how much memory you use. I would just select the images you specifically want and use those. Not try and scan the whole darn thing in.
how would I read them then? I don't only want the pictures. I want to read the articles too. But some of those old pics are pretty fuzzy compared to today's standards. So one of the added benefits would be getting them in HD.

I have an answer, but you won't like it. You'll spend a lot of time and not get the end product you're looking for. If you want to try, take pictures of the pictures and articles you want in 1 magazine and check your memory.
That seems like it would take even more time than scanning. Also, if I was just taking pictures, then it would be hard to ensure the different pages would be reasonably aligned.

It's not just about the money. It's about getting to read these just as they were printed, except in high definition.

So you want to take high definition pictures of ty pics? So the pics will still look ty in high def?
No...I'm not taking any pictures. I'm scanning in magazine articles with pictures. The original pictures were good for their time but I want to reread the articles and see the pics in high def. Not to mention, having my whole collection available on my tablet or phone.

Ok I get it. Did you try it yet?
Not yet. Was going to start this weekend and realized my scanner plate is only 8.5 x 11. Then I realized if I took apart the mags, I could feed them through a high speed scanner/copier. I'm going to take apart all the mags first, then go to Kinkos and have them scanned.

Gracias. FYI, it looks like they're running a promo. You can get 1,2, or 4 GB for free. I started with just 2 to see if it bogs my phone and tablet down. If it still runs fast, I'll go back and load the 4 GB. Thanks again.
