I'm not so sure about that. Yeah, D'Antoni introduced an innovative offensive system a decade ago, which briefly wracked up a lot of wins. But teams have stolen parts of Mike's O, and thus it's now league wide, and no longer a difference maker. I think that system was Mike's "Ace in the hole" and with it now being common (and commonly defended) he doesn't really have much else to fall back on. He's not a defensive coach, and while he's well liked by the media and by players (except Pau, maybe), he's not a strong leader by coaching standards. I think his time in New York and LA, showed that D'Antoni isn't anything special anymore. Some players like him because he pumps up their stats, but, in my opinion, he's not what Washington needs. With the East being so weak, with a few good moves and the right person, they could be a real contender (by East standards) for the next few years.
