The reason, on top of it being pretty disgusting, that people are mad is because as long as they aren't being questioned about it, they could stomach it. These guys knew about Sterling and could live with it because they felt they were using him to better their lives (as he feels about them too). But when it's thrown in their face and they forced to actually deal with, the anger ensues.
