Its one thing to have racist opinions, another to have racist opinions about your employees and customers, and yet another to have those racist opinions about employees and customers public. An NBA team is a franchise and franchisees always have lots of conditions for ownership chief among them to protect the brand. Sterling is hurting the NBA brand with his comments so it is well within legal right and customary practice to revoke his ownership. If he wasn't an idiot he'd have already come out and apologized and blamed alcohol or drugs for the slip of the tongue. IMO the NBA should revoke, for hurting their brand by being an asshole time and time again.

As for the clipper players, I agree they should have known and come off as hypocrite (sterling too for that matter with his black mistress, customers and employees) but at the same Time there are only so many teams and they shouldn't have to sacrifice, neither compe ively nor economically just because the NBA decided to give a franchise to a racist asshole.

David Aldridge on his one and only interaction with Donald Sterling

With the exception of a three-year period (1993-96) when I was covering the NFL, I've been covering the NBA since 1987. I've had one conversation with Sterling. It lasted about four minutes. This was in 2006, when the Clippers, to the surprise of the entire western world, didn't have a team that stunk. They had a functioning Elton Brand and Chris Kaman, and an old head in Sam Cassell, and a coach in Mike Dunleavy -- who, just a few years later, would have to sue Sterling to get what had been promised him contractually -- who made the Clips into a promising squad.

Anyway, the Clippers were in the playoffs for the first time in years, and playing the Denver Nuggets. At halftime of one of the games, I was talking to the team's GM, Elgin Baylor -- who, just a few years later, would have to sue Sterling to get what had been promised him contractually. I mentioned, quite casually and not expecting anything in response, that I had never met Sterling.

Elgin got a look on his face. It was a familiar look; the look of someone who was about to do something he really didn't want to do, but felt obligated to do -- like shovel five feet of snow off the elderly neighbor's stoop.

"You want to meet him?," Elgin asked.

"Uh, sure," I said. It was halftime of a playoff game -- the clock was running in the press room at Staples. How much damage could be done in one pithy conversation?

Baylor introduced me to Sterling and his wife, S y -- who, just a few years later, would sue the woman who ... oh, God, never mind -- and we made about two minutes of small talk about the game and the great season the Clippers, finally, were having.

Then Sterling said, and I'm quoting, "Can I ask you a question?"

    I said, "Sure."

And he said, "Why are all these black women having these children out of wedlock?"

To repeat: I had never, until this day in 2006, ever been introduced, or said o, or called, or had anything to do with Sterling -- who, just a few years later, would pay $2.725 million to settle the largest housing discrimination lawsuit in the history of the United States of America. I had never written him a note or an e-mail, or received one from him. Nothing. Nada. Nuttin'.

I looked at the clock on the wall. I believe it was under seven minutes, and counting, until the second half began. I found what little composure was in my body.

"Well, Mr. Sterling, that's not a question I can answer in seven minutes," I began, gesturing to the running clock. "First, I'm not sure it's 'All' these black women,' and the ones that do have a lot of factors that contribute to their decisions -- "

"Oh, I know," he said. "I was just wondering what you thought."

I have not had a conversation with Sterling since. Nor do I plan to.

Nothing wrong with equality but if there is going to be equality, it actually needs to be equality. Don't give gold stars out for diversity or being special. You have to earn gold stars in my opinion. You earn them by being good at something or having a skill or talent that employers and businesses like and want. Life is ty and sucks but you have to be thick skinned. You also have to realize that you aren't always going to get your way. Not everyone is going to like you or be nice to you. Some people might offend you or hurt your feelings. It is up to be the bigger person.

I just think it's funny how people want this guy to give up something that he bought and owns. If a black person calls a a " ", are you going to demand that said black person must give up their car or house as punishment?
    Who called you a ?

Is being racist against the law? Do humans have a right to have racist thoughts and feelings as long no one is physically or financially getting hurt? Is racism a flaw of humanity's free will and imperfection?

I ask that because if you say racist at your house, I think it's off limits. Yeah, some people will get offended but tough . Privacy outweighs your feelings.

Who said it's against the law? Don't you think the NBA is concerned about the financial impact of this controversy....Did you read anything in this thread?

You should really ask for Target to pay for some continuing education courses, tbh.

People in American society treat racism and prejudice as being worse as murder, rape, and theft. It's sad but most definitely true. You can deny it all you want but it's true. Being labeled a racist is way more damaging than being labeled a murderer or rapist. If you're a racist, you have no cards or chips to play. If you're a rapist or murderer, you can blame it on mommy and daddy.

It wasn't appropriate for him to ask Aldridge that question in that setting, but it is a legitimate question to ask. Sociologists have been asking that question for a long time.

If these Clipper players are so offended by their evil white master owner, why not jump him or whack him? Put up or shut up. You know what these players will do? Nothing. You know why? Because at the end of the day, the dollar bill is most what it's all about. They know that they after all this is done, they will still be living the good life and will still be getting paid millions to put a ball in a hoop for our entertainment. Do you really think Griffin or Christina Paul gives a about whether or not that the owner of the team they play for is a racist old Jew ? no. I can't read minds but I do know that people specially in America are greedy mutha ers and it's always about money. They don't care about race or racism or making a difference. They only care about their name and the amount of money they have. Selfish dishonest pricks. I mean if you're going to be a rich prick, at least own it and embrace. Don't be a fake little pecker that hides behind political causes and movements.

It's funny how this piece of Obama is so quick to give his comment (while in Malaysia) to a matter that is still under investigation, however when it comes to prisoner abuse in Abu Graib (caught on video cam and audio and ex-soldier testimony), Bagram jail in afghanistan, and guantanamo bay, he will simply say "we are still investigating the matter".

    First class hypocrite!

It's one thing to tell a racist or off color joke for shock value to get people to laugh in the privacy of your own home.

It's another when you state you don't want to associate with black people......because they're black......and you're serious.
