Don't really understand how this was Ginobili's fault. Vince made a really lucky shot.
1.7 to inbounds.
Watch Manu try to make the Hero Ball steal.
In doing so, it
a. throws him off balance when he misses the ball and
b. in trying to recover and play D on Carter....in doing so he overcompensates, jumps way too early and joins the paratroopers club. Carter senses this, actually gets position and moves away from Manu as Manu is falling down from his paratroopers jump. Clear shot at a trey in what should have been a very contested jumper.
We are up by 2.
We cannot lose in regulation by a 2.
Only a trey can beat us. (Or some dumbassed 2 + 1 fouling a shooter that no one would do -hey wait! Manu on Dirk in 2006.
GNobs positives still far outweigh his negatives for a career.
But his basketball IQ is dropping off the charts what with his Miami bull and now this.
Don't really understand how this was Ginobili's fault. Vince made a really lucky shot.
Not THAT lucky...
Manu has had more facials than pamela anderson
Spurs need to win three out of four, why worry about yesterday's game?
Thinking about Wes Mathews steal yesterday on a critical play yesterday, it occurred to me the Spurs don't make enough plays on defense that force turnovers disrupt the other time. They are totally at the mercy of the offensive team in those situations. It starts by pressuring the passer and making sure he doesn't get an easy inbound then also making sure the offensive players don't get the ball where they want to catch it. Also if you can be beat or tied by a 3 do not allow 3pointers! Overplay the 3pt line and hope you can contest enough inside the arc.
Mr. Jenkins, the 4th grade math teacher and boys basketball coach knows this.
But Popped and Ginobili do not.
This is kinda true. Manu gambles way too much and it gets him in trouble more now that he doesn't have the athleticism to get back in time. But oh well let's hope we win tonight.
Manu f'd us in the fourth at 1:45 up three. Heat-check shot he should have known he would miss (with 15 on the shot clock, no less)... Brick. Dallas two the other way.
He just doesn't think....
That was the play bro, go back and rewatch it. h e got a clean look, just couldn't connect.
It was a bad shot and he was short dorking his threes as the game progressed.
A higher percentage two and time off the clock is what we needed there, not a hero ball three miss....

Manu was great all game, all series long, tbh...
Spurs should try to sign him to another 2 year extension in the offseason... he's still clearly the heart of this team and he has played great.
7-year max contract extension tbh...
let's not be ridiculous... 2 year $10m deal is reasonable, tbh...
Manu is carrying the team for all of the jackass haters whining on one play! GTFO!
phxspurfanSkull-1This is kinda true. Manu gambles way too much and it gets him in trouble more now that he doesn't have the athleticism to get back in time. But oh well let's hope we win tonight.Did you guys catch were he did it again!?He just doesn't think....
87-84 after Splitts did the nifty loose ball grab and Blair gifted us with the knee jerk reaction leg kick.
Manu sinks the tech, Splitts hits both free throws.
Back on D.
Ellis drives and GNob tries to draw the charge and instead hands Ellis a 2 + 1. Tie game.
Don't foul the shooter, right?
Basketball 101, Mr. Jenkins and his 4th grade basketball class all know this.
I know Hall of Fame best coach in the NBA Greg Popper won't do it, but with game-on-the-line defensive situations like this and esp at the very end like the end of Game 3 (1.7 seconds) he should sub Manu out. Do the defensive/offensive switch. Of course it would be better to school him how to play D up 3 but that obviously is not working.
therealtruthNor 2+1s.Also if you can be beat or tied by a 3 do not allow 3pointers!
Thank goodness we won.
For the haters, Manu played well all in all. Any of your fabrications that *it's just one play*, yeah its sometimes the game deciding play.

I thought that was a terrible call, tbh... Monta has been getting away with barreling into the paint and getting bailed out by the whistle... I was actually surprised he wasn't bailed out in the last play too.
Boris got the same treatment the game before. Manu is actually one of the best perimeter defenders on the team, even at 37...
Mavs, including Ellis and foremost Dirk are getting bull calls vs the Spurs. That's only been going on since 2006.
Ad-just-ments.
You know the refs have been blowing Ellis and Dork all game long.
Oh so let's test out the refs up 3 with a minute or so to play. Then say afterwords but but but it wasn't a foul.
Brilliant strategy.
This is hindsight analysis, Fabbs. What are the Spurs supposed to do? Put a red carpet to the rim for Monta only up 3?
I mean, this wasn't a situation where there's less than 24 seconds left, and the Mavs are forced to foul... I didn't think Boris fouled him either the game before, but a lil home cooking is part of the game (sucks when you're on the other end of the call, no doubt)
Nonsense. It was clear before the play we are up 3. We cannot surrender the lead with a 2.
Also, it was a foul. Manu is clearly shuffling his feet and impedes Ellis movement.
The play started with 59 seconds on the clock, Ellis got the ball and started his drive with about 54 seconds.
If that is not close enough to an end of game defensive situation for you
Strawman, don't foul the shooter! If in a calculated risk you are stopping a sure hoop like a dunk or layup, make damn sure the shooter does not make the shot. What are the Spurs supposed to do? Put a red carpet to the rim for Monta only up 3?
Like Ellis did.
Like Dirk did 2006.
o, we've now been here too many times with GNob.
Again, more hindsight analysis. I'm pretty sure Manu didn't want to foul, not last night or in 2006. Boris didn't want to foul in the previous game either...
But if you play D, sometimes you're going to get called for contact. The Spurs have been on the other side of the same coin a lot of times too.
And no, 54 secs is a whole lot of time, especially in the playoffs and in a close game. You play defense.
But this is a pointless argument, tbh... if he lets Monta waltz through then there's ing for not playing D...
Dude carter traveled. He readjust his right foot after the pump fake. Many is not to blame. He is the only guy who showed heart and fire and competivite nature out there.
